Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: With two weeks remaining in the regular season, Lourdes has reached a critical point in the schedule in the quest to reach postseason. The Gray Wolves host Madonna on Wednesday evening before beginning its final road trip of the season with a visit to Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon.
On the Air: Wednesday's game against Madonna will be broadcast on a tape-delay basis on BCSN as part of Buckeye Broadband. BCSN will air the game on Thursday at 3:30 a.m. The game will also air on BCSN2 on Thursday at 1:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and Friday at noon.
Head Coach Josh Gibson: In his second season on the Lourdes bench
Josh Gibson has a 17-37 (.315) record with the Gray Wolves. Overall as a men's collegiate head coach, Gibson has a 78-95 (.451) record in his sixth season. He is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Madonna leads the all-time series against Lourdes 9-8 dating back to Nov. 6, 2010. The Crusaders have won four of the last five meetings between the two teams after defeating the Gray Wolves earlier this season 81-66 on Nov. 29 in Livonia, Mich. Madonna won the only previous meeting inside the Ebeid Rec Center between the two teams 79-78 in overtime on Nov. 30, 2016. Lourdes is 9-3 all-time against Lawrence Tech in a series that began Nov. 3, 2012. The Blue Devils snapped the Gray Wolves' two-game winning streak in the series on Jan. 6 inside the Ebeid Rec Center with a 76-55 victory. Lourdes is 3-2 all-time against the Blue Devils in Southfield, Mich.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Concordia (Mich.) pulled away in the second half after leading by just five at halftime on Wednesday, and defeated Lourdes 84-64.Â
Desmond Frazier was the lone Gray Wolf to finish in double figures, scoring 14 points. On Saturday, Lourdes made just one of its first 17 shots from the floor and managed just 12 first half points in a 67-57 setback at home against Siena Heights.Â
Jordan Fabry led the Gray Wolves with 13 points in the loss.
Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders have dropped three of their last four games after suffering a 65-64 setback at Concordia (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon. Joshua Reynolds leads four Madonna players averaging in double figures with 14.8 points per game. Chris Dierker adds 12.8 points and has grabbed a team-leading 6.7 rebounds per game this season while Davon Taylor and Jonathan Swift are tallying 14.8 and 12.8 points per game respectively. As a team, Madonna is shooting 46.8% from the floor and scoring 82.3 points per game while yielding 74.7 points per night defensively.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils have dropped five straight contests after falling 60-57 on the road at Aquinas on Saturday afternoon. Lawrence Tech hosts Concordia (Mich.) on Wednesday before entertaining Lourdes. Ty'rese Searles leads the Blue Devils averaging 16.4 points per game. Devonte Myles adds 15.9 points and has grabbed a team-leading 7.1 rebounds per night for Lawrence Tech. The Blue Devils are shooting 43.3% from the floor and averaging 65.2 points per game on the year while allowing 74.9 points per game.
Crunch Time: Lourdes enters the final four games of the regular season needing to start a winning streak if the Gray Wolves want to qualify for the WHAC tournament. Lourdes is currently three games behind eighth place Concordia (Mich.) in the win column with four games to play, but the Cardinals hold the tiebreakers over the Gray Wolves. Thus Lourdes needs to win its final four games to have a chance to qualify for the postseason.
Frazier Tallies Season Highs: Desmond Frazier scored a season-high 14 points for the Gray Wolves at Concordia (Mich.) last Wednesday, just the second double figure game of the season for the junior. The junior also matched his season best with four steals against the Cardinals.
Snow Gets to the Glass: Clif Snow pulled down 10 rebounds for the Gray Wolves on Saturday against Siena Heights. For the freshman, it was the fifth double figure rebounding game of his career. Snow leads Lourdes on the glass pulling down 6.2 caroms per games this season.
Nationally Ranked Defense: Lourdes ranks sixth among all NAIA Division II schools in scoring defense, allowing just 68.7 points per game. The Gray Wolves have ranked in the top-seven nationally in scoring defense every season except last year dating back to 2011-2012. Last season the Gray Wolves finished 28th in the country allowing 74.0 points per night. Lourdes led the country in 2012-2013, surrendering just 51.3 points per game that season.
Bench Production: The Gray Wolves have relied heavily on their bench for scoring over the last few games. Against Concordia (Mich.), the starters combined for just 12 total points, forcing the reserves to contribute 52 points on the night. The Lourdes bench also accounted for 27 of the 57 points on Saturday against Siena Heights.
Among the Nation's Best: Lourdes is 17th in the country registering 8.6 steals per night while their 2.68 turnover margin is 22nd best in the country. The Gray Wolves rank 29th nationally in field goal percentage defense, allowing opponents to shoot 43.1% from the floor this season. Lourdes is also 32nd nationally in three-point field goal percentage defense at 33.9% while the Gray Wolves are blocking 2.92 shots per night, 46th best in the country.
