Lourdes Blanks Michigan-Dearborn in WHAC Opener

Lourdes opened Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play in triumphant fashion on Saturday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves defeated the University of Michigan-Dearborn 1-0 at Gabriel Richard High School in Riverview, Mich.

"I thought we played with a lot of energy today," head coach Barry Spitzer said afterwards.  "I'm proud of how we managed the game and played hard for all 90 minutes."

The Gray Wolves outshot the Wolverines 7-4 over the opening 45 minutes, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.  Alex Siluk made three first half stops for Michigan-Dearborn to keep the game scoreless.

Lourdes finally broke through in the 67th minute.  Savio Adams (Cape Town, South Africa/Zeekoevlei H.S.) had the ball in the corner, dribbled along the end line, and fed a ball back into the box.  Osbaldo Senderos (Cartersville, Ga./Cartersville H.S.) collected the pass and beat Siluk to put the Gray Wolves in front.

Ali Chokr (Bint Jbail, Lebanon/Fountainebleau (La.) H.S.) did the rest, earning his first collegiate shutout for Lourdes.  The freshman netminder made five saves as Michigan-Dearborn (3-3-1, 0-1 WHAC) outshot the Gray Wolves 15-13 for the match.  Silek finished the match with six saves for the Wolverines.

Lourdes (2-4, 1-0) will return home to Wildcat Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, as the Gray Wolves host Indiana Tech.  Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
