The Lourdes men's soccer team had a strong defensive showing as it tied Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference-foe Indiana Tech 0-0 on a sunny Wednesday afternoon at Wildcat Stadium.
"I'm really proud of our effort," said head coach
Barry Spitzer following the contest. "I think we created a lot of good opportunities for ourselves and played well. I'm proud of the way we progressed from non-conference play into conference play and I look forward to capitalizing on what we were able to do today."
The first half would prove to be a defensive battle as the score was deadlocked at 0-0 after one half of action. Lourdes mustered only one shot in the first half, while the Warriors tallied nine.
Indiana Tech possessed the ball for the majority of the second half, outshooting the hosts by an 11-1 margin. The Gray Wolf defense was able to keep the Warriors in check to push the contest into overtime.
Juniors
Reece Riccardi (Jupiter, Fla./Suncoast) and
Savio Adams (Cape Town, South Africa/Zeekoevlei/San Jacinto) nearly put the Warriors away on multiple occasions after coming up just short of finding the back of the net for a pair or game-winning goals in the overtime periods.
Freshman
Ali Chokr (Bint Jbail, Lebanon/Fontainebleau (La.)) had another strong showing between the posts, stopping six shots, while going the distance in the net.
Indiana Tech won the shots battle, outshooting Lourdes 21-7 on the day, while winning the battle on corner kicks by a 9-1 margin.
The Gray Wolves (2-4-1 overall, 1-0-1 WHAC) will return to action on Saturday evening as they welcome Rochester (Mich.) to Wildcat Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
