Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Coming off the most successful season in program history, Lourdes tips off the 2019-2020 season on Friday evening as the Gray Wolves travel to Shawnee State. This is the ninth season for women's basketball at Lourdes.

Head Coach John Kenger: In his second season on the Lourdes bench, John Kenger sports an 11-18 (.379) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  In his fifth season overall as a women's collegiate head coach, Kenger has a 50-72 (.409) career mark.  He is the fourth head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes and Shawnee State will be meeting on the hardwood for the first time in women's basketball on Friday evening.

Wrapping Up Last Season: The Gray Wolves finished the 2018-2019 season 11-18 overall and 6-14 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.  Lourdes set a school record for victories, and also tied for seventh place in the WHAC standings, the highest finish ever for a Gray Wolf program.  Lourdes missed out on the WHAC tournament due to tiebreakers.

Scouting Shawnee State: The Bears when 25-10 overall and 9-5 in the Mid-South Conference in 2018-2019 before advancing to the second round of the NAIA Division I National Championship.  Shawnee State returns six players from last year's squad, led by Bailey Cummins who averaged 12.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.  Sydney King added 9.0 points per night for the Bears.  Shawnee State is ranked 11th in the NAIA Division I preseason poll.

Lourdes Tabbed 8th in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in eighth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  Lourdes was picked just behind Concordia (Mich.) and just ahead of Northwestern Ohio in the balloting.  Indiana Tech was picked as the unanimous preseason favorite.

Lots of New Faces: Lourdes has just seven players on its roster that have seen the floor for the Gray Wolves prior to this season.  Mirandia Green, Jami Hardy, Riley Raburn, and Sara Semler are the only players that have seen two years of action on this year's squad.  Lourdes has added nine freshmen and seven transfers to the program for the upcoming year.

Lourdes in Season Openers: The Gray Wolves are 5-3 all-time in season openers after defeating Grace Christian on the road 87-64 to open the 2018-2019 season.  Lourdes has won two straight openers after downing Great Lakes Christian at home to begin the 2017-2018 season.  This is  only the second time Lourdes has opened the season on the road, with last season's game at Grace Christian being the other.

Among the NAIA Leaders: Lourdes finished 20th in NAIA Division II last season averaging 14.3 offensive rebounds per game.  The Gray Wolves were also 37th in rebounding margin at +3.4 while their scoring defense of 64.3 points per game ranked 48th nationally.  Individually among returnees, Sara Semler was 23rd in the country with a 2.06 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Sister Act: Lourdes has two sets of sisters on the roster this season.  Jami Hardy and Kali Hardy both have been with the Gray Wolf program for two years while Courteney Hardy transferred to Lourdes after playing at Mount Saint Joseph last season.  In addition, Kaylesha Broyles and Kailani Broyles have both joined the Gray Wolf program this year after transferring from Edison State Community College.

Lots of Local Faces: More than half of the Lourdes roster is from the Northwest Ohio or Southeast Michigan area this season.  Bryce Blood, Mirandia Green, Krisah Lewis, Sara Semler, and Mare West are from Toledo while the three Hardy sisters and Nadeen Jemaa hail from Perrysburg.  Megan Harvey is a Bowling Green, Ohio product while Baylee Baldwin and Mary Liedel are from just across the border in Ottawa Lake and Erie, Michigan respectively.

Redshirts: The Gray Wolves have five players that plan to sit out the 2019-2020 season as redshirts this year with the plan to return to the hardwood for the 2020-2021 campaign.  Kaylesha Broyles, Kailani Broyles, Jami Hardy, Nadeen Jemaa, and Bryce Blood all intend to use their redshirt seasons.

This and That: Lourdes is 64-171 all-time entering the program's ninth season ... the Gray Wolves are 30-92 in true road games through the first eight years ... Lourdes is 4-1 all-time in overtime contests ... the Gray Wolves finished last season winning two of their last three games.
