Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes returns home to the Ebeid Rec Center on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves host Wright State-Lake in the final tune-up prior to league play. Â Lourdes opens Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Saturday as the Gray Wolves take to the road to battle 23rd-ranked Indiana Tech.
Head Coach Dennis Hopson: In his first season on the Lourdes bench,
Dennis Hopson is 1-2 (.333) with the Gray Wolves and as a men's collegiate head coach. Â He is only the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes is 2-0 all-time against Wright State-Lake in a series that began on Nov. 7, 2017. Â The Gray Wolves won the only previous meeting inside the Ebeid Rec Center last year, with a 78-64 triumph over the Lakers. Â Indiana Tech leads the all-time series against Indiana Tech 13-6 dating back to Oct. 30, 2010. Â The Warriors have won nine straight meetings in the series after downing the Gray Wolves three times last year. Â Indiana Tech was a 79-76 winner in the Ebeid Rec Center and a 90-73 victor in Fort Wayne, Ind. during the regular season. Â The Warriors also posted an 82-73 win during the WHAC tournament. Â Indiana Tech holds a 7-3 series advantage in Fort Wayne.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes battled back from a 20-point second half deficit to pull even with 24th-ranked Saint Francis (Ind.) at home on Tuesday, but the Cougars pulled out a 72-70 victory. Â
Little Anderson led the Gray Wolves with 18 points while
Clif Snow added 17 points and nine rebounds. Â On Friday, Lourdes held a second half lead on sixth-ranked Mount Vernon Nazarene nearly the entire second half before the Cougars forced overtime with a three-pointer with six seconds to play. Â Mount Vernon Nazarene went on to a 95-87 win. Â Snow paced Lourdes with 16 points while Anderson added 14 more.
Scouting Wright State-Lake: The Lakers enter the week having won three of their last four games after defeating Southern State Community College at home on Sunday. Â Wright State-Lake travels to Lake Erie on Tuesday before visiting Lourdes.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors snapped their four-game season-opening losing streak on Saturday, defeating Trinity International 93-67 at home. Â Josh Kline leads Indiana Tech averaging 16.2 points per game while grabbing 7.8 rebounds per night. Â Cory McKinney and Jeremy Davison are adding 9.4 points per contest.
Lourdes in WHAC Openers: Lourdes is 3-5 in program history in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference openers. Â The Gray Wolves have dropped four straight contests to begin league play after falling 86-68 at Madonna last season. Â Lourdes last victory to begin conference play came against Michigan-Dearborn on Nov. 15, 2014. Â The Gray Wolves are 1-2 in WHAC openers on the road.Â
Egbo Registers Double-Double: Julian Egbo recorded the first double-double of his Lourdes career, and first for any Gray Wolf this season, on Friday night at Mount Vernon Nazarene. Â The redshirt-junior scored 11 points while pulling down a career-high 10 rebounds in just 25 minutes of action. Â Egbo was 5-of-7 shooting the basketball from the floor and also added two blocked shots.
Taking Care of the Basketball: Through three games this season,
Little Anderson has handed out seven assists for the Gray Wolves while committing just one turnover. Â His assist-to-turnover ratio currently ranks eighth among all NAIA Division II players. Â
Shooting the Ball Well: Lourdes ranks 18th in the nation in field goal percentage this season, connecting at a 51.1% clip through the season's first three games. Â The Gray Wolves are a 40% three-point shooting team from beyond the arc, 25th best nationally. Â Individually,
Little Anderson ranks 11th in field goal percentage, shooting 66.7% from the floor. Â The freshman made 8-of-9 from the floor against Saint Francis (Ind.).
A Scoring Threat: Clif Snow has paced the Lourdes offense averaging 23.0 points per game this season, a mark that is 15th best in NAIA Division II. Â The junior has tallied double figures in all three games this year, scoring a minimum of 16 points in each contest. Â He matched his career high with 36 points in the opener against Harris-Stowe.
Facing Ranked Foes: Lourdes are in the midst of a stretch in which the Gray Wolves are playing NAIA Division II top-25 opponents in five of seven games. Â Lourdes is 8-50 all-time against nationally-ranked opponents, and is looking to snap a 27-game losing streak against such foes. Â The Gray Wolves last downed a top-25 team on Feb. 18, 2015, when Lourdes defeated fourth-ranked Davenport 53-32.
Lourdes Tabbed Sixth in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in sixth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Â Lourdes was picked just ahead of Michigan-Dearborn and just behind Rochester (Mich.) in the league balloting. Â Madonna is the favorite to win the WHAC in 2019-2020.
