Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes closes out the month of November on Tuesday evening with a home game inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center as the Gray Wolves entertain Cornerstone. Â Lourdes is looking for its second win in its last three games.
Head Coach John Kenger: In his second season on the Lourdes bench,
John Kenger sports an 13-25 (.342) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Â In his fifth season overall as a women's collegiate head coach, Kenger has a 52-79 (.397) career mark. Â He is the fourth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Cornerstone holds a 13-3 all-time advantage against Lourdes in a series that dates back to Dec. 10, 2011. Â The Gray Wolves have won three of the last four meetings between the two schools though, including both contests last season. Â Lourdes was a 68-53 victor in Grand Rapids, Mich. and a 65-55 winner at home. Â The Gray Wolves are 2-1 against the Golden Eagles inside the Ebeid Rec Center but 2-6 all-time in home games.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes scored its first WHAC win of the season on Wednesday as the Gray Wolves defeated Madonna 67-59 at home. Â
Riley Raburn and
Hunter Kershaw paced Lourdes with 12 points each while
Sara Semler added 10 points in the win. Â On Saturday, Lourdes had a chance to tie on the game's final possession, but came up short in a 43-40 setback at Aquinas. Â
Baylee Baldwin and
Sirena Pitts each tallied nine points to lead the Gray Wolf offense.
Scouting Cornerstone: The Golden Eagles have dropped 10 consecutive games following a season-opening victory, falling to fourth-ranked Indiana Tech 72-48 on Saturday afternoon. Â Shelby Nyboer leads Cornerstone in scoring, averaging 11.2 points per game, while Rebekah Crosby adds 11.0 points per night while grabbing a team-leading 7.0 rebounds per game. Â As a team Cornerstone is scoring 53.9 points per game and shooting 36.4% from the floor.
Kershaw and Raburn Match Career Highs: Hunter Kershaw and
Riley Raburn both tied their career highs on Wednesday, scoring 12 points in the win over Madonna. Â Kershaw was 4-for-5 from the floor and equalled her previous best set three times last season. Â Raburn went 6-for-8 from the floor in 19 minutes of action. Â Her effort tied her career best when she tallied 12 points against Wright State-Lake on Nov. 6, 2018.
From Long Range: Lourdes has made 56 three-point field goals already this season, the 48th highest total in NAIA Division II. Â
Baylee Baldwin leads the Gray Wolves from downtown with 13 triples, while
Sara Semler has added 11 more threes.
Building a Halftime Lead: For the first time this season, Lourdes took a lead into the locker room on Wednesday against Madonna, holding a 32-26 advantage. Â The Gray Wolves had previously trailed at the half in the first seven games of the year.
Forcing Turnovers: Over the first seven games, Lourdes had committed more turnovers than the Gray Wolf defense had forced. Â In both games last week, Lourdes was able to force the opposition into more miscues than the Gray Wolves. Â Lourdes forced 16 turnovers from Madonna before Aquinas turned the ball over 24 times on Saturday.
Handling the Basketball: Sara Semler has handled the basketball well for the Gray Wolves this season. Â The junior guard leads the team with 21 assists and has a positive assist-to-turnover ratio having committed just 19 miscues. Â Semler is also second on the squad in steals, registering 10 thefts through nine games.
Second Quarter Adjustments: Despite being outscored 631-443 this season, Lourdes has shown the ability to battle back in the second quarter.  The Gray Wolves outscored the opposition in the second stanza in four straight games.  In six of the nine games, Lourdes has played even with the opposition in the second 10 minutes, and  outscored its opponents 130-128 for the year in the second period.
Guarding the Arc: Lourdes held the opposition to 14.8% shooting from three-point range last week. Â Madonna made just 2-of-11 triple tries, and none in the first 38 minutes of the game. Â Aquinas went 2-for-16 from beyond the arc on Saturday.
Sharing the Wealth: Through the first nine games of the season, Lourdes has had eight different players lead or share the team lead in scoring. Â

Mirandia Green are the only Gray Wolves to lead the team twice. Â

Lourdes Tabbed 8th in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in eighth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Â Lourdes was picked just behind Concordia (Mich.) and just ahead of Northwestern Ohio in the balloting. Â Indiana Tech was picked as the unanimous preseason favorite.
This and That: All 16 players that have seen the floor for the Gray Wolves have scored this season and grabbed at least four rebounds ... 10 different Gray Wolves are averaging 9.8 minutes per game or more this year.
