Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes looks to carry the momentum of its first victory into this week's action, with the Gray Wolves closing out their first home stand of the season on Tuesday against Indiana-South Bend. Lourdes will then take to the road on Saturday to open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action at Concordia (Mich.).
Head Coach John Kenger: In his second season on the Lourdes bench,
John Kenger sports an 12-20 (.375) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his fifth season overall as a women's collegiate head coach, Kenger has a 51-74 (.408) career mark. He is the fourth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Indiana-South Bend have split two previous meetings 1-1 in a series dating back to Dec. 17, 2011. The two schools have not met since Oct. 27, 2012 when Lourdes defeated the Titans 62-56 at Tam-o-Shanter. This will be Indiana-South Bend's first visit to the Ebeid Rec Center. Concordia (Mich.) holds a 14-2 series edge over Lourdes dating back to Oct. 27, 2011. Last season the Gray Wolves snapped a seven-game series losing skid with a 69-61 victory in Ann Arbor, Mich. before the Cardinals won the second game of the year 68-64 inside the Ebeid Rec Center. Concordia holds a 7-1 series edge in Ann Arbor.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Grace Christian rallied from a five-point deficit after three quarters to defeat Lourdes 70-65 on Tuesday.
Sara Semler led the Gray Wolves with 12 points while
Hunter Kershaw added 11 points and seven rebounds. On Saturday, Lourdes picked up its first win of the season in its home opener, downing Olivet 40-38. Semler had a game-high 10 points for the Gray Wolves.
Mare West and
Erica Cary each added seven points.
Scouting Indiana-South Bend: The Titans remained unbeaten on the season with a 65-56 victory at home against Northwestern Ohio on Saturday afternoon. Kylie Fehrman leads Indiana-South Bend averaging 12.0 points per game while Kyleigh Kubik adds 10.7 points per night. Rachael Robards has pulled down a team-high 4.7 rebounds while Taitlyn Trenshaw has handed out 6.0 assists per night.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals picked up their first win of the season on Friday, 71-66, at home against Governors State. Tris'styn Williams leads Concordia averaging 13.0 points per game while pulling down 7.3 rebounds. J'may Simmons has added 8.7 points per contest. Concordia hosts Spring Arbor on Wednesday before entertaining Lourdes.
Lourdes in WHAC Openers: Lourdes is 2-6 all-time in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference openers entering Saturday's game at Concordia (Mich.). The Gray Wolves snapped a four-game losing streak in openers last year, defeating Madonna 74-52 on the road. Lourdes has only played Concordia in a conference opener once, a setback in the Gray Wolves' inaugural game in program history on Oct. 27, 2011.
Doing a Little of Everything: Sara Semler has been an all-around leader for the Gray Wolves thus far this season. The junior guard leads the team in scoring, averaging 10.0 points per game while shooting 50.0% from the floor, including 42.9% from three-point range. She also leads the team with seven assists while committing just six turnovers, and has pulled down 12 rebounds, second most on the team. Semler also has registered a team-high three steals.
West Tallies Double Figures for the First Time: Mare West scored 12 points, the most by a Gray Wolf in a game this season, last Tuesday in the loss at Grace Christian. For the freshman, it was her first collegiate double-figure scoring game of her career.
Playing Solid Defense: Lourdes limited Olivet to just 38 points in the home opener on Saturday, the fewest points the Gray Wolves have surrendered in a game since allowing just 32 against Akron Wayne on Dec. 8, 2015. Lourdes forced 21 turnovers in the victory while holding Olivet to 29.2% shooting for the game, including just 14.8% after halftime.
From Long Range: Lourdes has had eight different players make at least one three-pointer already this year in just the season's first three games.

Lourdes Tabbed 8th in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in eighth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just behind Concordia (Mich.) and just ahead of Northwestern Ohio in the balloting. Indiana Tech was picked as the unanimous preseason favorite.
This and That: Lourdes improved to 6-3 all-time in home openers with the victory over Olivet ... Indiana-South Bend will be the first NAIA Division II opponent the Gray Wolves have faced this season ... Sarah Semler is 37 points shy of 400 for her career.
