Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: After eight days off for Thanksgiving, Lourdes returns to the hardwood this week for a pair of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference games. Â The Gray Wolves travel to Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday night before hosting Concordia (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon.
Head Coach John Kenger: In his second season on the Lourdes bench,
John Kenger sports an 14-25 (.359) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Â In his fifth season overall as a women's collegiate head coach, Kenger has a 53-79 (.402) career mark. Â He is the fourth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Michigan-Dearborn holds a 9-7 all-time edge against Lourdes in a series that began Jan. 14, 2012. Â The Wolverines have won the last three meetings between the two schools after sweeping last year's games by scores of 61-49 and 69-37. Â Michigan-Dearborn is 5-3 against the Gray Wolves at the UMD Fieldhouse. Â Concordia (Mich.) is 15-2 all-time against Lourdes dating back to Oct. 27, 2011. Â The Cardinals won the first meeting this season between the two schools 73-42 on Nov. 9 in Ann Arbor, Mich. Â Concordia is 3-0 against the Gray Wolves inside the Ebeid Rec Center and 7-1 all-time in Sylvania.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes headed into Thanksgiving break on a high note after defeating Cornerstone 80-65 at home last Tuesday night. Â
Mirandia Green paced the Gray Wolves with 19 points while
Sara Semler added 17 points and seven assists. Â
Baylee Baldwin also tallied double figures with a 16-point effort for Lourdes.
Scouting Michigan-Dearborn: The Wolverines have won two straight games after defeating Rio Grande 78-75 on Sunday afternoon in Kingsport, Tenn. Â Ro'Zhane Wells and Lauryn Carroll pace the Michigan-Dearborn offense averaging 12.2 points per night each. Â Laekyn Jaciuk and Mariah Taylor have added 11.3 and 11.1 points per game respectively. Â Jasia Caldwell leads the Wolverines on the glass, pulling down 6.6 rebounds per outing.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals snapped a two-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 61-53 victory at home against Michigan-Dearborn. Â Concordia hosts Rochester (Mich.) on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes. Â Tris'styn Williams leads the Cardinals averaging 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game this season while shooting 47.1% from the floor. Â J'may Simmons adds 10.0 points per night while Katie Snow leads the team on the glass pulling down 6.3 boards per night.
Offense Arrives: Having scored less than 70 points in each of the first nine games this season, the Lourdes offense exploded for a season-high 80 points on Tuesday against Cornerstone. Â The Gray Wolves had not have a player tally more than 14 points in a game individually prior to the game against the Golden Eagles, but had three players exceed that mark in the win. Â
Mirandia Green led the way with 19 points followed by
Sara Semler (17) and
Baylee Baldwin (16).
Career Night for Semler: Sara Semler registered a pair of career highs in the win over Cornerstone. Â Her 17-point effort bettered her previous high of 15 at Albion as a freshman. Â She also handed out seven assists after having dished out no more than four in any previous game during her college career.Â
Green Also Tallies Career Best: Mirandia Green's 19-point outburst against Cornerstone not only was a season high for any Gray Wolf this year, but also marked a new career high for the junior. Â Green's previous best was 17 points as a freshman against Wright State-Lake.
Looking to Go Back-to-Back: Lourdes is attempting to win back-to-back Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference games for the first time since the 2016-2017 when the Gray Wolves defeated Madonna and Marygrove on Nov. 30 and Dec. 3. Â That is the only time in program history the Gray Wolves have won two consecutive league contests.
Shooting Well Leads to Victories: When Lourdes has shot a better percentage from the floor than its opponents this season, the Gray Wolves have won (3-0). Â Conversely, when the opposition shoots better than Lourdes, the Gray Wolves have lost (0-7). Â Lourdes posted its best field goal percentage of the season last Tuesday against Cornerstone, connecting at a 51.9%, more than 10% better than the previous best (41.7%) against Indiana-South Bend.
Taking Care of the Basketball: Over the last two games, Lourdes has protected the basketball on the offensive end of the floor. Â The Gray Wolves committed what was then a season-low 13 turnovers at Aquinas on Nov. 23 before bettering that mark with just 10 miscues on Tuesday (Nov. 26) against Cornerstone.
Going the Distance: Sara Semler never left the floor on Tuesday in the victory over Cornerstone, the third time this season she has gone the distance. Â Semler also played all 40 minutes against Madonna and at Taylor.
Lourdes Tabbed 8th in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in eighth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Â Lourdes was picked just behind Concordia (Mich.) and just ahead of Northwestern Ohio in the balloting. Â Indiana Tech was picked as the unanimous preseason favorite.
