Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes puts its four-game winning streak on the line this week as the Gray Wolves return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play for a pair of games. Â Lourdes travels to Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday for a first place showdown before hosting Concordia (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon.
Head Coach Dennis Hopson: In his first season on the Lourdes bench,
Dennis Hopson is 7-3 (.700) with the Gray Wolves and as a men's collegiate head coach. Â He is only the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 10-6 all-time series advantage against Michigan-Dearborn dating back to Jan. 14, 2012. Â The Gray Wolves have won three straight meetings between the two schools after sweeping last year's contests 65-63 and 77-74. Â The Wolverines holds a 6-2 advantage in games played in Dearborn, Mich. Â Lourdes is 10-9 all-time against Concordia (Mich.) in a series that began Nov. 2, 2010. Â The two sides split a pair of meetings last year, with each team winning on its home court. Â The Cardinals won 86-84 in overtime while the Gray Wolves were 93-82 victors. Â Lourdes holds a 2-1 advantage inside the Ebeid Rec Center and is 6-3 all-time in home games.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes shot nearly 48% from the floor on Tuesday and snapped a 15-game losing streak to 12th-ranked Cornerstone with a 71-59 victory at home. Â
Clif Snow recorded a double-double with 25 points and 11 rebounds while
Little Anderson added 14 points. Â The Gray Wolves added another top-25 victory on Saturday with a 64-62 win over #21 Union (Ky.). Â
Nick Welch tallied 15 points while
Kenny Coleman added 12. Â Lourdes concluded the week with a 59-53 victory against Rio Grande on Sunday. Â Snow had 19 points while
Julian Egbo pulled down 13 rebounds.
Scouting Michigan-Dearborn: The Wolverines have won three straight games after downing Concordia (Mich.) 72-59 last Tuesday. Â Cody Kegley leads Michigan-Dearborn averaging 15.0 points per game while Jason Gigliotti adds 13.5 points and a team-high 8.6 rebounds per night. Â Zach Lattimer is adding 11.6 points per contest.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals enter the week having dropped four straight games after suffering an 84-75 setback at Great Lakes Christian on Saturday. Â Concordia hosts Rochester Wednesday before visiting Lourdes. Â Jerald Booker leads the team averaging 17.0 points per game whie Greg Alexander adds 12.6 points per night. Â Paul Zysk is grabbing 7.1 rebounds per contest.
Snow Named WHAC Player of the Week: Clif Snow picked up his second Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor after averaging 18.3 points and 8.7 rebounds while shooting 48.5% from the floor, including 40% from three-point range in the three wins last week. Â The junior also earned the honor on Nov. 18.
Topping Ranked Opponents: Lourdes has played six teams ranked in the NAIA Division II top-25 over its first 10 games of the season, posting a 3-3 record against such foes. Â The Gray Wolves entered the season having dropped 25 consecutive games to top-25 opponents before downing #23 Indiana Tech, #12 Cornerstone, and #21 Union (Ky.) already this season. Â Prior to this season, the Gray Wolves had never won more than two games in a season against ranked teams, and have now improved to 11-51 all-time against top-25 teams all-time.
Surpassing 1,000: Clif Snow joined
Zach Steinmetz (2013-2016) as just the second player in Lourdes history reach 1,000 points for his career last Tuesday against Cornerstone. Â Snow has now scored 1,048 points in his three years with the Gray Wolves, an average of 15.0 per game.
Receiving Votes: Lourdes is receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' Top-25 Poll for the first time this season. Â The Gray Wolves received four points in this week's poll, the first time Lourdes has received votes since being ranked 25th in the Dec. 10, 2013 coaches' poll.
Crashing the Glass: Julian Egbo pulled down 13 rebounds on Sunday in the win over Rio Grande, his second 13-board performance of the season, and of his Lourdes career. Â The redshirt-junior also pulled down 13 rebounds in the win over Wright State-Lake on Nov. 13.
Team Rankings: Lourdes is also among the top nationally in several different statistical categories as a team. Â The Gray Wolves rank 11th in scoring defense, allowing just 67.2 points per game. Â In addition, Lourdes is shooting 39.3% from three-piont range, a mark that is 15th in the country. Â The Gray Wolves' 48.4% shooting from the field overall also ranks 30th.
Making Halftime Adjustments: Despite being outscored 350-332 in the opening 20 minutes of play this season, Lourdes has rallied in the second half. Â Over the second 20 minutes, the Gray Wolves have outscored their opposition 415-301 this season.
Team Captains: Lourdes will have four captains for the upcoming season. Â
