Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: The 2018-2019 regular season comes to a close for Lourdes University this week as the Gray Wolves play a pair of games with tournament seeding on the line. Â Lourdes heads to Indiana Tech for the road finale on Wednesday evening before returning home on Saturday for a Senior Day matinee against Madonna.
Head Coach Josh Gibson: In his third season on the Lourdes bench
Josh Gibson has a 35-51 (.407) record. Â Overall as a men's collegiate head coach, Gibson has a 96-109 (.468) record in his seventh season. Â He is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Indiana Tech holds an 11-6 all-time advantage against Lourdes in a series that began Oct. 30, 2010. Â The Warriors have won the last seven meetings between the two schools, including a 79-76 triumph inside the Ebeid Rec Center earlier this season on Nov. 28. Â Indiana Tech is 5-3 against Lourdes all-time in Fort Wayne, Ind. Â Madonna holds an 11-8 series advantage over the Gray Wolves dating back to Nov. 6, 2010. Â The Crusaders have won the last three meetings against Lourdes after downing the Gray Wolves 86-68 in Livonia, Mich. on Nov. 17. Â Madonna is 2-0 against Lourdes inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes shot 54.0% from the floor and 89.5% from the free throw line on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves defeated Concordia (Mich.) 93-82 at home. Â
Clif Snow led the Gray Wolves with 25 points while
Kadeim Jones and
Deuce Martin added 18 points each. Â Lourdes ended its homestand on Saturday with a 99-90 double-overtime loss to Northwestern Ohio. Â Jones paced Lourdes with 24 points while
McRay White added 19 more for the Gray Wolves.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors have won two of their last three games after scoring a 72-58 victory at Aquinas on Saturday afternoon. Â Indiana Tech enters the week tied with Madonna for second place in the WHAC standings. Â Dylan Phair leads the Warriors averaging 15.6 points per game while Logan Primerano has added 14.0 points per night. Â Indiana Tech is averaging 79.5 points per game this season while allowing 74.0 points per night.
Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders have won three straight games after defeating Michigan-Dearborn 78-66 on the road Saturday. Â Madonna travels to Aquinas on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes and enters the week tied with Indiana Tech for second place in the WHAC standings. Â Dwight Burton leads the Crusaders averaging 21.7 points per game while Joshua Reynolds adds 16.6 points per night. Â Jonathan Swift has chipped in 14.6 points per outing.
Thanks Seniors: Prior to Saturday's home finale, Lourdes will honor three seniors that have been valuable members of the program for the last several years. Â
Desmond Frazier will be playing in the final regular season game of his career while
Darriontae Stewart and Kyle Sturgis have served as managers this season after previously playing for the Gray Wolves.
Back to the WHAC Tournament: Lourdes has assured itself its first trip to the WHAC tournament since the 2014-2015 season. Â The Gray Wolves are currently in fifth place, one game in front of sixth place Rochester (Mich.), in the league ledger. Â Lourdes is assured of at least the seventh seed in the conference tournament, but can finish no higher than fifth. Â Thus the Gray Wolves will be on the road for the quarterfinals on Thursday, February 21.
Second Most Wins Ever: With its 18th victory against Concordia (Mich.) last Wednesday, Lourdes posted its 18th victory of the season, the second most for a team in program history. Â Only once have the Gray Wolves won more than 18 games in a season, the 2012-2013 campaign in which Lourdes finished the year 22-10.
A Scoring Binge: Lourdes has had at least one player score 20 points in a game in 23 of the team's 28 contests this year, including each of the last 12 games. Â In fact, in the last nine games, at least one Gray Wolf has tallied a minimum of 24 points.
Racking Up Another Double-Double: Clif Snow tallied his team-leading eighth double-double of the season on Saturday in the loss to Northwestern Ohio, scoring 12 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. Â He has all but one of the team's double-doubles, with
Christian Wagenhauser registering the other one back on Nov. 24 against Great Lakes Christian.
Handing Out Helpers: Brett Lauf ranks 10th in NAIA Division II handing out 5.2 assists per game this season. Â The sophomore has dished out at least seven helpers in eight different games, and has at least one assist in all 28 contests.
Bonus Basketball: Lourdes played in its school-record fifth overtime game of the season against Northwestern Ohio after having played in just 10 extra session games total prior to this season. Â The Gray Wolves are 1-4 in overtime this year and 3-12 all-time. Â
Among the Nation's Leaders: Lourdes ranks 17th as a team with a 1.35 assist-to-turnover ratio and is 25th making 9.71 three-pointers per night. Â The Gray Wolves rank 30th in free throw percentage (74.0%) and 34th in field goal percentage (47.1%).
This and That: Lourdes and Northwestern Ohio have played multiple overtime games in back-to-back seasons, going double overtime this year after a triple overtime game in 2017-2018 ...
