Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: The penultimate week of the 2018-2019 regular season has arrived as Lourdes looks to make a push towards the postseason with a pair of home games. The Gray Wolves entertain Concordia (Mich.) on Wednesday night before hosting Northwestern Ohio in a Saturday matinee.
Head Coach Josh Gibson: In his third season on the Lourdes bench
Josh Gibson has a 34-50 (.405) record. Overall as a men's collegiate head coach, Gibson has a 95-108 (.468) record in his seventh season. He is only the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Concordia (Mich.) are deadlocked 9-9 in 18 overall meetings in a series that began Nov. 2, 2010. The Cardinals have won three straight meetings between the two schools, including an 86-84 overtime victory earlier this season on Jan. 9 in Ann Arbor, Mich. The series is tied 1-1 inside the Ebeid Rec Center with Lourdes holding a 5-3 edge all-time in home games. Lourdes holds a 10-8 series edge over Northwestern Ohio dating back to Dec. 30, 2010. The Gray Wolves have won three of the last four meetings against the Racers after a 79-72 victory in Lima, Ohio on Jan. 2. Lourdes is 2-0 against Northwestern Ohio inside the Ebeid Rec Center and 6-2 all-time in home games.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes fell behind early and was never able to recover on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves suffered an 86-72 setback at Lawrence Tech.
Brett Lauf led Lourdes with 25 points while
Clif Snow tallied 23 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Monday evening Lourdes shot 54.9% from the floor and had four players finish with double figures in the scoring column in a 93-76 victory over Siena Heights in a make-up of last Wednesday's postponement. Snow scored 26 points while
Kadeim Jones added 12 more. Lauf grabbed 14 rebounds and handed out seven assists.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals have dropped two of their last three games overall after falling 81-68 at Northwestern Ohio on Monday. Jalen Thompson leads Concordia averaging 17.6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game while Jared McDaniel is adding 12.1 points per night. The Cardinals rank 19th nationally averaging 8.0 steals per game.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers enter the week having won two straight after downing Concordia (Mich.) 81-68 on Monday. Northwestern Ohio travels to Madonna before heading to Lourdes. Nathan Lessing leads the Racers averaging 15.3 points per game, while Zach Montes and Willis Mackey, Jr. add 14.9 points per game each. Mackey is also pulling down 8.5 rebounds per night.
Second Most Wins Ever: With its victory against Siena Heights on Monday, Lourdes posted its 17th victory of the season, matching the second most for a team in program history. Only once have the Gray Wolves won more than 17 games in a season, the 2012-2013 campaign in which Lourdes finished the year 22-10.
Closing in on the WHAC Tournament: With four conference games remaining on the calendar, Lourdes has positioned itself nicely to earn its first trip to the WHAC tournament since the 2014-2015 season. The Gray Wolves are currently in fifth place, one-half game in front of sixth place Lawrence Tech, in the league ledger. With the top eight teams qualifying for the postseason event, Lourdes needs just one victory to assure itself a berth in the WHAC quarterfinals on Feb. 21.
A Scoring Binge: Lourdes has had at least one player score 20 points in a game in 21 of the team's 26 contests this year, including each of the last 10 games. In fact, in the last seven games, at least one Gray Wolf has tallied a minimum of 25 points.
Racking Up Another Double-Double: Clif Snow tallied his team-leading seventh double-double of the season on Saturday in the loss at Lawrence Tech, scoring 23 points while grabbing 13 rebounds. The double-double was the first for Snow since Dec. 28 against Kent State-Tuscarawas. He has all but one of the team's double-doubles, with
Christian Wagenhauser registering the other one back on Nov. 24 against Great Lakes Christian.
Handing Out Helpers: Brett Lauf ranks ninth in NAIA Division II handing out 5.2 assists per game this season. The sophomore has dished out at least seven helpers in seven different games, and has at least one assist in all 26 contests.
An Inside Presence: McRay White has made his presence known in the paint for the Gray Wolves this season. The sophomore is shooting 61.2% from the floor, averaging 9.5 points per outing after scoring a season-high 14 points against Siena Heights. In addition, he is pulling down 6.0 rebounds per night and has blocked a team-leading 19 shots despite playing in just 16 games.
Snow Racking Up Points: Clif Snow has scored at least 20 points in nine of his last 10 outings. He leads the Gray Wolves averaging 18.3 points per game on the season, a mark that ranks 49th nationally. He scored a season-high 36 points against Cornerstone on Jan. 19.
Among the Nation's Leaders: Clif Snow is 39th in the NAIA in rebounding, pulling down 8.3 caroms per night and is 39th shooting 43.7% from three-point range.
This and That: Brett Lauf's 15 rebounds against Siena Heights matched
Clif Snow (Kent State-Tuscarawas, Dec. 17) for the most by a Gray Wolf this season ... Snow is 25 points shy of 800 for his career at Lourdes ...
Bryce McComb's 17 points were the most he has scored since tallying 21 on Dec. 17 against Kent State-Tuscarawas.
