Upcoming in Gray Wolves Lacrosse: For the first time since 2016, Lourdes has qualified for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament, and begins action on Tuesday evening. Â The fifth-seeded Gray Wolves travel to fourth-seeded Siena Heights in an opening round contest.
Head Coach Alyssa Shaver: In her second season on the Lourdes bench,
Alyssa Shaver has a 16-17 (.485) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves and as well as a collegiate head coach. Â She is just the second head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Siena Heights owns a 9-1 series advantage all-time against Lourdes dating back to the initial meeting on March 18, 2014. Â The Saints have won four straight meetings between the two schools after posting a 12-9 victory in Adrian, Mich. last Wednesday (April 17). Â Siena Heights holds a 5-1 series edge in games played in Adrian.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes went 1-2 in the final week of the regular season, beginning with a 15-9 victory at Cleary on Monday. Â
Hannah Merrick and
Bella D'Arcy both scored four times in the win. Â The Gray Wolves traveled to Siena Heights on Wednesday evening, and suffered a 12-9 setback following a 90-minute lightning delay late in the first half. Â Merrick tallied five goals for the Gray Wolves in the loss. Â On Saturday, Lourdes closed the regular season with a 16-6 setback to fourth-ranked Indiana Tech. Â D'Arcy tallied three of the six goals for the Gray Wolves.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints enter the tournament having dropped two of their final three regular season games after falling 9-8 at home against Aquinas on Saturday. Â Jenna Sommerville leads Siena Heights with 53 goals and 62 points on the year while Samantha Pawlowski has scored 38 times. Â Katherine Tapia leads the Saints with 13 assists. Â In goal, Mariah Smythe has played a majority of the minutes for Siena Heights, sporting an 11.69 goals against average and a .490 save percentage.
Lourdes in the WHAC Tournament: The Gray Wolves are making their first appearance in the WHAC tournament since 2016, and third all-time. Â Lourdes is 0-2 in postseason play, falling to Indiana Tech 23-5 in the inaugural 2014 season in the opening round. Â In 2016, the Gray Wolves suffered a 14-3 setback at Davenport in the semifinals.
Most Games in Program History: The Gray Wolves will play their 19th game of the season on Tuesday in the opening round of the tournament, three more than the team has ever played in a season in program history. Â The previous record was 16 during the 2014, 2016, and 2017 campaigns.
Among the All-Time Best: Lourdes has several players atop the all-time lists entering the tournament. Â
Tiara Reed ranks second with 130 career points while
Ashley Hunt is third with 83 of her own. Â They also rank 2-3 in goals scored with 110 and 66 respectively as well as in assists with 20 and 17 each.
Reed Closing in on More Marks: Tiara Reed also ranks second in school history with 141 ground balls, just 11 shy of
Hannah Cullis' (2015-2018) career record of 152. Â Reed's 101 draw controls are also second, just 10 behind
Alyssa Long's (2015-2018) total of 111). Â
Single Season Records: Tiara Reed has set the new single season record for the Gray Wolves with 68 draw controls, 17 more than second place
Alyssa Long in 2018. Â
Jacque Pappadakes needs just four saves to tie
Kiley Ketteman's single season saves mark with 149. Â Ketteman set the record in 2016.
Quite the Scoring Race: A pair of freshmen are tied for the top spot in the team's scoring race this season. Â
Hannah Merrick and
Bella D'Arcy both have 42 points in 2019. Â Merrick leads the team with 39 goals while D'Arcy has a team-high 101 shots. Â
Tiara Reed leads the assist category with nine helpers on the season.Â
Looking for a Breakthrough Win: Lourdes is looking for its first win ever against a NAIA top-10 opponent when it faces Siena Heights on Tuesday. Â The Gray Wolves are 0-5 this year against ranked foes and 0-45 all-time in the program's sixth season.
