Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: After reaching the midway point in the 2019-2020 schedule, Lourdes returns begins the second half the season returning to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action this week with a pair of key league games. Â The Gray Wolves entertain Northwestern Ohio on Wednesday evening before traveling to Rochester (Mich.) for a Saturday afternoon contest.
Head Coach John Kenger: In his second season on the Lourdes bench,
John Kenger sports an 14-30 (.318) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Â In his fifth season overall as a women's collegiate head coach, Kenger has a 53-84 (.387) career mark. Â He is the fourth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Northwestern Ohio leads the all-time series against Lourdes 12-4 dating back to Jan. 18, 2012, but the two schools have alternated wins over the last eight contests. Â Last season, the Racers scored a 92-70 victory in Lima, Ohio before Lourdes notched a 60-59 victory in the Ebeid Rec Center. Â Lourdes is 2-1 against Northwestern Ohio in the Ebeid Rec Center and 2-6 all-time in home games. Â Rochester (Mich.) holds a 6-1 series edge over Lourdes dating back to Jan. 23, 2012. Â The Warriors have won four straight games between the two sides, including a 77-70 victory in the Ebeid Rec Center and a 55-48 win in Rochester Hills, Mich. Last season. Â Rochester is 3-0 all-time against the Gray Wolves in Rochester Hills.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Erica Cary's free throw with 5.4 seconds left forced overtime on Saturday afternoon, but Ohio Christian pulled out a 76-67 victory over the Gray Wolves in the Ebeid Rec Center. Â Cary and
Mary Liedel both had double-doubles for Lourdes. Â Cary scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds while Liedel led the Gray Wolves with 15 points and 16 boards. Â
Baylee Baldwin added 12 points while
Logan Ingram tallied 11 more for Lourdes.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers have dropped two straight games after falling 110-53 at 11th-ranked Indiana Tech last Saturday. Â Tori Lennartz leads Northwestern Ohio averaging 17.4 points per game while Tya Bell adds 12.7 points and a team-leading 7.0 rebounds per contest. Â Erin Scott is also averaging in double figures, scoring 10.3 points per outing.
Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors enter the week having won two straight games after posting a 76-67 victory at home against Cornerstone on Saturday. Â Rochester heads to Lawrence Tech Wednesday before hosting Lourdes. Â Lexey Tobel leads the Warriors averaging 14.9 points per game while Devan Valko adds 13.3 points per contest. Â Delaney Bolles is the team's rebounding leader, pulling down 6.1 boards per night.
Quite a Debut: Mary Liedel made an impact in her first regular season at Lourdes. Â The sophomore transfer registered a double-double, scoring 15 points and grabbing 16 rebounds while playing 35 minutes on Saturday against Ohio Christian. Â Liedel's appearance for the Gray Wolves came in the exhibition game against Oakland on Dec. 21 where she scored seven points and had eight rebounds.
Another Double-Double: Erica Cary also had her first collegiate double-double against Ohio Christian. Â The freshman scored 11 points, one off her career high, while pulling down a career-best 10 rebounds. Â Prior to Saturday's game, Lourdes had not had a double figure rebound game from any player this season. Â
Four in Double Figures: For the first time this season, Lourdes had four players tally double figures in the scoring column on Saturday against Ohio Christian. Â In addition to
Mary Liedel's team high 15 points and
Erica Cary's 11 points,
Baylee Baldwin tallied 12 and
Logan Ingram added 11 points for the Gray Wolves. Â Prior to Saturday, Lourdes had three players finish in double figures in the same game just four times this year (Grace Christian, Madonna, Cornerstone, Spring Arbor).
First Time Starters: Lourdes had three players making their first starting assignments for the Gray Wolves on Saturday against Ohio Christian. Â
Courteney Hardy,
Krisah Lewis, and
Mary Liedel all were in the opening lineup for the first time wearing terra cotta and black.
Bonus Basketball: When Lourdes went to overtime with Ohio Christian on Saturday, it marked the first time since Dec. 7, 2016 against Cornerstone the Gray Wolves played an extra five minutes. Â The contest was just the sixth overtime game in the program's history, with Lourdes posting a 4-2 all-time record when playing more than 40 minutes.
Bench Production: Lourdes bench produced 38 of the Gray Wolves' 67 points on Saturday, outscoring the 29 points posted by the team's starters. Â That is the most points scored by the Lourdes bench this season, surpassing the 30 points scored by the reserves at Indiana Tech on Nov. 16.
From Long Range: Lourdes made nine three-pointers in the loss to Ohio Christian on Saturday, its second highest output from beyond the arc this season. Â The Gray Wolves made 10 triples against Grace Christian on Oct. 29. Â
Baylee Baldwin made a career-high four three-pointers for the Gray Wolves, matching the team's individual high this year. Â
Logan Ingram drained four threes at Indiana Tech on Nov. 16.
This and That: Mirandia Green and
Sara Semler are the only two Gray Wolves to have started all 15 games this season ... 12 different players have each started at least one game ... Semler is 34 points shy of 500 for her career ... Semler is the only Lourdes player this season with a positive assist-to-turnover ratio (46-32).
