Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes enters the final week of the 2019-2020 regular season looking to earn a berth in the upcoming WHAC tournament for the first time ever. The Gray Wolves begin the final week hosting Lawrence Tech for Senior Night on Wednesday before traveling to Northwestern Ohio for the finale on Saturday.
Head Coach John Kenger: In his second season on the Lourdes bench,
John Kenger sports an 21-36 (.368) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In his fifth season overall as a women's collegiate head coach, Kenger has a 60-90 (.400) career mark. He is the fourth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lawrence Tech holds a 12-3 series advantage over Lourdes dating back to Nov. 17, 2012, and has won nine straight games against the Gray Wolves. The Blue Devils won the first meeting this season 74-47 on Jan. 15 in Southfield, Mich. Lawrence Tech is 3-0 against Lourdes in the Ebeid Rec Center and 5-2 all-time against the Gray Wolves in Sylvania. Northwestern Ohio leads the all-time series against Lourdes 12-5 dating back to Jan. 18, 2012, but the Gray Wolves have won the last two meetings between the two schools. The Gray Wolves scored a 67-51 victory over the Racers earlier this season on Jan. 8 in the Ebeid Rec Center. Northwestern Ohio is 6-2 against Lourdes in Lima, Ohio.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes led wire-to-wire on Wednesday in Grand Rapids, Mich., defeating Cornerstone 68-59.
Erica Cary tallied 18 points while
Sirena Pitts had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. The Gray Wolves had their two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, falling at home to Rochester (Mich.) 79-59.
Addie Conroy led Lourdes with 13 points in the setback.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils have dropped three straight games after falling 70-63 to 14th-ranked Siena Heights on Saturday in their home finale. Kendall Fisher leads Lawrence Tech in scoring, averaging 15.9 points per game while Danielle Hanson adds 12.3 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds. Kaitlyn Smith (10.6 ppg) and Teryn Kline (10.3 ppg) also are scoring in double figures.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers enter the week having dropped two of their last three after falling 73-56 at Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday. Northwestern Ohio is at Aquinas on Wednesday before hosting Lourdes. Tori Lennartz leads the Racers averaging 16.9 points per game while Tya Bell adds 11.6 points per night. Kimyra McGhee is the team's top rebounder pulling down 7.1 boards per night.
Thanks Seniors: Lourdes will honor the two members of the 2020 senior class on Wednesday prior to the game with Lawrence Tech.
Hunter Kershaw and
Riley Raburn will be playing in their final home game at Lourdes. Kershaw has played in 56 games over the last two seasons, averaging 4.5 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Raburn has appeared in 63 games over the last three seasons, tallying 3.0 points per night.
Battling for a Tournament Berth: Lourdes enters the final week of the regular season in search of its first WHAC tournament berth in program history. For the Gray Wolves, the scenario is simple. The winner of the Lourdes-Northwestern Ohio game on Saturday will be the eighth seed in the upcoming tournament, regardless of how both teams do in their respective games on Wednesday.
Pitts Notches Second Career Double-Double: Sirena Pitts registered her first double-double of the season, and second of her Lourdes career, last Wednesday against Cornerstone. She scored 11 points while pulling down a career-high 13 rebounds in the win against the Golden Eagles. Pitts only previous double-double came at Great Lakes Christian on Jan. 7, 2019 in a 10-point, 12-board performance.
Freshmen Tally Career Highs: Erica Cary and
Addie Conroy both registered career highs in the scoring column last week. Cary tallied her seventh double figure scoring game as a Gray Wolf at Cornerstone, pouring in 18 points, six more than her previous best. Conroy entered Saturday's action against Rochester (Mich.) having scored just 27 points all season, including a season-best six at Madonna, before tallying 13 points against the Warriors.
The Leader at the Point: Sara Semler has taken care of the basketball this season while running the Gray Wolf offense. The junior guard ranks 45th in NAIA Division II with a 1.71 assist-to-turnover ratio this season. Semler leads the Gray Wolves averaging 3.00 assists per game. She also is also second on the team in scoring at 9.2 points per night and her 38 steals are most on the squad. Semler is averaging 36.6 points per game and has played all 40 minutes 13 times this season.
Limiting Scoring: Lourdes ranks 43rd among all NAIA Division II teams in scoring defense, allowing just 64.6 points per game this season. The Gray Wolves have allowed more than 66 points just twice in their last 10 games.
This and That: Mirandia Green and
Sara Semler are the only two Gray Wolves to have started all 28 games this season ...
Baylee Baldwin is the only other Lourdes player to appear in all 28 contests ... the Gray Wolves rank 42nd in NAIA Division II having made 195 three-point field goals this season.
