Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes plays four of its next five games inside the Ebeid Recreation Center as the 2019-2020 regular season begins to wind down. Â The Gray Wolves host Michigan-Dearborn in a key WHAC game on Wednesday evening before closing out non-conference play on Saturday as Lourdes entertains Great Lakes Christian.
On the Air: Wednesday's game against Michigan-Dearborn will on a tape-delay basis on BCSN as part of Buckeye Broadband. Â The game will air on Thursday at 1:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Saturday at 12:30 a.m. In addition, BCSN2 will show the game Thursday at 6:30 p.m., Friday at 2:30 p.m., and Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
Head Coach John Kenger: In his second season on the Lourdes bench,
John Kenger sports an 19-34 (.358) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Â In his fifth season overall as a women's collegiate head coach, Kenger has a 58-88 (.397) career mark. Â He is the fourth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Michigan-Dearborn is 10-7 all-time against Lourdes in a series that dates back to Jan. 14, 2012 and has won four straight meetings against the Gray Wolves. The Wolverines won the first meeting this season 70-57 in Dearborn, Mich. on Dec. 4. Â Michigan-Dearborn holds a 2-1 edge inside the Ebeid Rec Center but the series is tied 4-4 all-time in Sylvania. Â Lourdes is 4-0 all-time against Great Lakes Christian dating back to Oct. 30, 2017. Â The Gray Wolves won the first meeting this season against the Crusaders 89-48 last Thursday in Lansing, Mich. Â Lourdes is 2-0 against Great Lakes Christian inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes scored its first win ever against Aquinas last Wednesday, as the Gray Wolves defeated the Saints 48-46 at home. Â
Mirandia Green tallied a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds while
Erica Cary added eight points in the victory. Â The Gray Wolves extended their winning streak to four on Thursday with an 89-48 triumph at Great Lakes Christian. Â Green led five players in double figures with 17 points while
Baylee Baldwin added 14 more. Â Lourdes saw its win streak end on Saturday as 14th-ranked Siena Heights defeated the Gray Wolves 85-67. Â
Mary Liedel tallied 15 points while Green added 13 more.
Scouting Michigan-Dearborn: The Wolverines had their two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, suffering an 89-72 setback to Lawrence Tech. Â Ro'Zhane Wells and Mariah Taylor lead Michigan-Dearborn averaging 12.2 points per game while Sade Lemons adds 10.4 points per night. Â Rachel Bause is pulling down 6.7 rebounds per outing.
Scouting Great Lakes Christian: The Crusaders earned their first victory of the season last Saturday, defeating Welch 62-51. Â Great Lakes Christian hosts Andrews on Tuesday before visiting Lourdes. Â Mystic Striker leads Great Lakes Christian averaging 16.6 points per game while Tilly Guild adds 15.8 points and a team-high 10.0 rebounds per night. Â Kerlanda Dervil and Randi Fitzgerald are both averaging in double figures as well, tallying 12.5 and 12.1 points per game respectively.
Celebrating Title IX: Lourdes will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day on Wednesday evening, playing the 8 p.m. game against Michigan-Dearborn. Â This is the second consecutive season the Gray Wolves have celebrated Title IX and the accomplishments of female athletes.
Record-Setting Win Streak: Lourdes set a new program record with its four-game winning streak that was snapped last Saturday. Â The streak began Jan. 22 with the win at Madonna and included wins at Akron Wayne, at home against Aquinas, and at Great Lakes Christian. Â The Gray Wolves had not won a road game this season prior to the three during the stretch. Â Prior to the streak, Lourdes had won three games in a row just twice in the program's first eight seasons.
Green Has Solid Week: Mirandia Green tallied double figures in all three games last week, running her string to four consecutive games with 10 or more points. Â The junior was two points shy of her career high with 17 points against Great Lakes Christian and added her second double-double of the year with 13 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Aquinas.
Spreading Out the Scoring: Lourdes had a season-high five players tally double figures in the win against Great Lakes Christian. Â In addition to
Mirandia Green tallying 17 points,
Baylee Baldwin poured in 14 points and
Hunter Kershaw added 12 more on 6-of-7 shooting. Â
Erica Cary came off the bench to score 11 points and
Sara Semler chipped in 10 points.
Taking Care of the Basketball: Lourdes committed a season-low nine turnovers against Siena Heights on Saturday afternoon. Â The Gray Wolves had previously committed just 10 miscues at Akron Wayne one week prior and against Cornerstone earlier this season.
Battling for a Tournament Berth: As Lourdes heads into the final three weeks of the WHAC schedule, the Gray Wolves are batting for their first WHAC tournament berth in program history. Â Currently Lourdes is one-half game (one win) ahead Northwestern Ohio for the final postseason spot. Â Lourdes downed Northwestern Ohio in their first head-to-head meeting of the year.
This and That: Mirandia Green and
Sara Semler are the only two Gray Wolves to have started all 24 games this season ...
Baylee Baldwin is the only other Lourdes player to appear in all 24 contests ... the Gray Wolves rank 48th in NAIA Division II having made 168 three-point field goals this season ... Lourdes is 5-5 at home this season.
