Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes concludes its season-opening two-game road trip on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves head to South Bend, Ind. to face Indiana-South Bend in search of their first victory of the 2021-2022 season.
Head Coach Tandy Bradford: In her first season on the Lourdes bench,
Tandy Bradford sports an 0-1 (.000) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. Â In her fourth season overall as a collegiate head coach, Bradford has a 21-60 (.259) career mark. Â She is the fifth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Indiana-South Bend holds a 2-1 all-time series advantage over Lourdes dating back to Dec. 17, 2011. Â The Titans won the last meeting 83-52 on Nov. 5, 2019 inside the Ebeid Rec Center. Â Indiana-South Bend also won the only previous meeting in South Bend, Ind., 80-63, during the first match up ever between the two schools.
Wrapping Up Last Week: The Gray Wolves opened the season on Saturday evening dropping a 93-61 contest on the road at Georgetown (Ky.). Â
Shae Pedroza led all scorers with 21 points while
Gabby Stover added a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Gray Wolves. Â Lourdes shot just 33.9% from the floor and committed 29 turnovers in the loss.
Scouting Indiana-South Bend: The Titans opened their season on Saturday afternoon with an 80-48 victory over Indiana-Kokomo. Â Rachel Robards came off the bench to score a team-high 16 points, one of four Indiana-South Bend players to finish in double figures. Â Maddie Gard added 15 points while Katie Gard chipped in 14 more. Â Emma Fisher scored 12 points while Courtney Haynes grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds.
Opening With a Double-Double: Gabby Stover began the season with her second career double-double in the loss to Georgetown (Ky.). Â The sophomore tallied 11 points and added 10 rebounds, one off her career high, while playing 36 minutes. Â Stover recorded her first career double-double last season with 15 points and 11 boards at Siena Heights on Feb. 3, 2021.
Pedroza Matches Career High: Shae Pedroza opened the season by tying her career high with 21 points at Georgetown (Ky.). Â The sophomore made 7-of-13 shots from the floor, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. Â Her four triples also matched a career best. Â Pedroza has now had consecutive 21-point efforts, having originally set her career high at Concordia (Mich.) in the WHAC semifinals on Feb, 27, 2021 to conclude last season.
First Career Start: Maddie Norton made her first start wearing the terra cotta and black on Saturday at Georgetown (Ky.). Â The sophomore appeared in just six games as a rookie. Â In fact, she played just 29 total minutes all of last season and was on the floor for 19 minutes in the season opener.Â
Welcome to Lourdes: After beginning her collegiate career at Wayne State University,
Mercedes Wagner appeared in a Lourdes uniform for the first time at Georgetown (Ky.). Â The sophomore played 20 minutes, scoring four points while grabbing three rebounds.
Collegiate Debuts: Lourdes had five players make their collegiate debuts in the season opener. Â
Shallyn Miley and
Alex Wolfe led the way, scoring four points each. Â Miley also pulled down five rebounds, second most on the squad. Â In addition,
Winter Richburg,
Lexie Sermak, and
Harmony Young all took to the floor for the first time.
Forcing Turnovers: The Gray Wolves created 17 Georgetown (Ky.) turnovers in the season opener, including nine via steals. Â
Gabby Stover and
Maddie Norton had three thefts each for Lourdes to place the defense.
Against the CCAC: Lourdes is looking to move to .500 against a current member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference on Wednesday at Indiana-South Bend. Â The Gray Wolves are 3-4 all-time against the league. Â In addition to a 1-2 record against Indiana-South Bend, Lourdes is 1-0 against Holy Cross (Ind.) and 1-1 against Indiana-Northwest. Â The Gray Wolves fell in their only game against Saint Xavier.
Lots of Whistles: Lourdes was called for 29 personal fouls in the season opener at Georgetown (Ky.). Â Two Gray Wolves fouled out, another finished the game with four fouls, and two more registered three. Â The fouls led to the Tigers shooting 28 free throws, of which they made 18.
Lourdes Tabbed 10th in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in 10th place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Â Lourdes was picked just behind Northwestern Ohio and just ahead of Madonna in the balloting. Â Indiana Tech was picked as the preseason favorite.
This and That: Lourdes is 80-206 all-time in the program's 11th season ... the Gray Wolves are 38-113 in true road games ... Lourdes is 4-3 all-time in overtime contests ...
