Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Two teams looking for their first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory of the season meet inside the Ebeid Rec Center on Tuesday evening. Lourdes returns home from a three-game road trip to host Northwestern Ohio in the Gray Wolves' final game in the month of November.
Head Coach Tandy Bradford: In her first season on the Lourdes bench,
Tandy Bradford sports an 3-5 (.375) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her fourth season overall as a collegiate head coach, Bradford has a 24-64 (.273) career mark. She is the fifth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Northwestern Ohio leads the all-time series against Lourdes 13-6 dating back to Jan. 18, 2012. The Gray Wolves and Racers split a pair of meetings last season, with each school winning on the other's home court. UNOH was a 61-53 victor in the Ebeid Rec Center on Jan. 16, 2021 before the Gray Wolves posted a 68-56 triumph in Lima, Ohio seven days later. Lourdes holds a 3-2 series edge in games played in the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes hung with ninth-ranked Indiana Tech through halftime but the Warriors outscored the Gray Wolves 29-7 in the third period on the way to an 81-48 victory in Fort Wayne, Ind. on Wednesday.
Shae Pedroza paced the Gray Wolves with 15 points while
Shallyn Miley added eight points and nine rebounds. On Saturday, Lourdes led nearly the entire way but two free throws with 13 seconds remaining pushed Madonna past the Gray Wolves 69-68 in Livonia, Mich.
Maddie Norton led five Gray Wolves in double figures with 14 points while Miley added 13 points and eight boards.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers have dropped three straight games following a 56-43 setback at home against Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon. Jada Haines is the lone Northwestern Ohio player averaging in double figures this season, scoring 10.0 points per contest. Amy Sourmare has added 8.0 points per outing. Maddie Downing leads the Racers on the glass, pulling down 5.8 rebounds per game. UNOH is averaging just 49.7 points per game this season but yielding just 62.7 points per night.
Home Sweet Home: Lourdes returns home after completing its longest road trip of the season, three games. The Gray Wolves are a perfect 3-0 inside the Ebeid Rec Center this season, winning all three contests by double figures. All-time, Lourdes is 25-43 inside its home facility.
Miley Crashing the Glass: Shallyn Miley has come up big on the boards for the Gray Wolves of late. She led the team in rebounding in both games last week and has pulled down eight or more rebounds in four of the team's last five games. For the year Miley is averaging 7.0 rebounds per night.
Spreading Out the Scoring: For the third time this season, Lourdes had four or more players finish in double figures on Saturday at Madonna. The Gray Wolves had five players score 10 or more points against the Crusaders after six Gray Wolves accomplished the feat earlier this year against Miami-Middletown.
Conroy Deadly from Long Range: Addie Conroy ranks second on the team with nine three-point field goals this season but has been the Gray Wolves most accurate all year. Conroy is shooting 56.3% from long range, making 9-of-16 shots this year. In fact, all but one of her field goals has come from beyond the arc.
A Little of Everything: Mercedes Wagner has been a key contributor for the Gray Wolves over the first eight games of her career at Lourdes. The sophomore transfer is averaging 11.8 points per game, second most on the squad, while adding a team-leading 7.5 rebounds per night. She is also leading Lourdes with six blocked shots and is tied for second with 12 steals.
Dishing Out Assists: Lexie Sermak entered Saturday with just 12 assists in her first seven collegiate games. The freshman dished out seven assists at Madonna though, accounting for more than half of the Gray Wolves' helpers.
A Mixed Up Lineup: Through eight games, Lourdes has had nine different players earn at least one starting assignment, with not a single player drawing the starting nod in all eight contests.
Defending the Perimeter: Lourdes has done a solid job limiting its opponents from three-point range this season. The opposition is shooting just 27.3% (50-of-183) from beyond the arc.
Record-Setting Effort: Lourdes shattered its school record by scoring 132 points in the victory over Miami-Middletown on Nov. 6. The previous mark was 107 points scored at Northwestern Ohio on Feb. 14, 2018. The 58-point margin of victory, 132-74, also broke the previous mark of 54 set on Nov. 6, 2018 against Wright State-Lake, 101-47, and matched last season at Akron Wayne in an 81-27 victory.
Lourdes Tabbed 10th in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in 10th place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just behind Northwestern Ohio and just ahead of Madonna in the balloting. Indiana Tech was picked as the preseason favorite.
This and That: Shae Pedroza is 17-of-18 (94.4%) from the free throw line this season ... the Gray Wolves are outrebounding opponents by 0.8 boards per night ... Lourdes is averaging 10.6 steals per contest.
