Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: After eight days off, Lourdes returns to the hardwood for its lone game in a 17-day span on Wednesday evening. The Gray Wolves head north to Lawrence Tech in search of its first WHAC victory of the season.
Head Coach Tandy Bradford: In her first season on the Lourdes bench,
Tandy Bradford sports an 3-6 (.333) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her fourth season overall as a collegiate head coach, Bradford has a 24-65 (.270) career mark. She is the fifth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lawrence Tech holds a 13-4 all-time advantage against Lourdes in a series that began Nov. 17, 2012. The Gray Wolves snapped a 10-game losing streak to the Blue Devils last season though, winning the only contest between the two schools. Lourdes posted a 78-62 victory inside the Ebeid Rec Center on Feb. 6, 2021. Lawrence Tech holds a 7-1 series edge in Southfield, Mich.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes was tied with Northwestern Ohio heading into the final quarter on Tuesday (Nov. 23), but the Racers used a 14-3 run to pull away and defeat the Gray Wolves 56-49 inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Maddie Norton led Lourdes with 14 points while
Mercedes Wagner added 11 more. Norton and
Alex Wolfe each pulled down a team-high six rebounds as Lourdes was outrebounded by Northwestern Ohio 36-27 for the night.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils are coming off back-to-back victories over the weekend at the Siena Heights Thanksgiving Classic. Lawrence Tech downed Shawnee State 73-69 on Saturday before defeating Governors State 64-57 on Sunday. Kendall Fisher leads Lawrence Tech in scoring, averaging 17.9 points per game. Julia Huey has added 10.9 points per night. On the glass, Kylee Batey is pulling down 8.0 rebounds per outing.
Time Off: Lourdes will have gone eight days since playing Northwestern Ohio when the Gray Wolves take the floor on Wednesday night at Lawrence Tech, but that's not even its biggest break of the year. Following the game against the Blue Devils, Lourdes will be off another 10 days before returning to the hardwood on Dec. 11 against Cornerstone. The Gray Wolves also have a nine-day gap between games in late December.
Norton Registers Career High: Maddie Norton has notched a career-high 14 points in back-to-back games for the Gray Wolves. After scoring a total of 27 career points entering the Madonna game on Nov. 20, Norton now has scored 28 points over her last two games. The sophomore now has three career double figure scoring games to her credit.
Wagner Tallies Double Figures Again: Mercedes Wagner scored in double figures for the fifth time in nine games with her 11 points performance for the Gray Wolves against Northwestern Ohio. The sophomore transfer is averaging 11.7 points per contests this season, second most on the squad.
A Little of Everything: Shae Pedroza has been around the action all season. The sophomore leads the Gray Wolves in scoring, averaging 13.3 points per game. She also leads Lourdes dishing out 3.0 assists per contests while tallying 12 steals in the seven games in which she has seen action. Pedroza is a 94.4% (17-of-18) free throw shooter on the year as well.
A Duo on the Boards: Mercedes Wagner and
Gabby Stover have been cleaning up the glass for the Gray Wolves this season. Wagner is pulling down 7.2 boards per outing while Stover has grabbed 7.0 rebounds per night. Both Gray Wolves are averaging at least two offensive rebounds per outing as well.
Conroy Deadly from Long Range: Addie Conroy ranks second on the team with 11 three-point field goals this season but has been the Gray Wolves most accurate all year. Conroy is shooting 50.0% from long range, making 11-of-22 shots this year. In fact, all but one of her field goals has come from beyond the arc.
Solid Defensively: Lexie Sermak enters December leading the Gray Wolves with 19 steals in nine games on the season. The freshman has at least one theft in every game but one (Indiana-South Bend) this season.
A Mixed Up Lineup: Through nine games, Lourdes has had nine different players earn at least one starting assignment, with not a single player drawing the starting nod in all nine contests. In fact,
Shallyn Miley is the only Gray Wolf to start eight of the nine games.
Record-Setting Effort: Lourdes shattered its school record by scoring 132 points in the victory over Miami-Middletown on Nov. 6. The previous mark was 107 points scored at Northwestern Ohio on Feb. 14, 2018. The 58-point margin of victory, 132-74, also broke the previous mark of 54 set on Nov. 6, 2018 against Wright State-Lake, 101-47, and matched last season at Akron Wayne in an 81-27 victory.
Lourdes Tabbed 10th in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in 10th place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just behind Northwestern Ohio and just ahead of Madonna in the balloting. Indiana Tech was picked as the preseason favorite.
This and That: Lourdes forced 27 turnovers against Northwestern Ohio, the fourth time this season the Gray Wolves have pressured a team into 25 or more miscues ...
Mercedes Wagner has eight blocked shots in nine games ... after the game at Lawrence Tech, Lourdes will play three of its final four contests at home prior to the holiday break.
