Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play tips off for Lourdes University on Wednesday afternoon with the Gray Wolves playing their first of three straight league games away from home. The conference slate opens with a trip to Grand Rapids, Mich. as Lourdes battles Aquinas.
Head Coach Tandy Bradford: In her first season on the Lourdes bench,
Tandy Bradford sports an 3-2 (.600) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her fourth season overall as a collegiate head coach, Bradford has a 24-61 (.282) career mark. She is the fifth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Aquinas leads the all-time series against Lourdes 18-1 dating back to Nov. 30, 2011. The Saints won last season's meeting 54-52 in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Feb. 13, 2021. Lourdes is looking for its first victory ever against Aquinas in Grand Rapids, Mich., entering the week 0-10 all-time on the Saints' home floor.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes tipped off the home portion of its schedule last Tuesday (Nov. 2) with a 70-60 victory over Spring Arbor.
Shae Pedroza tallied 17 points while
Mercedes Wagner added 13 more points and five steals. The Gray Wolves followed two days later with a 64-43 win at home against Carlow. Lourdes yielded just 12 second half points to the Celtics. Wagner had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while
Gabby Stover added 11 points. The homestand concluded on Saturday with a record-setting 132-74 win over Miami-Middletown on Homecoming. Wagner registered her second straight double-double with 29 points and 12 boards while Alex Wolf also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Pedroza poured in 22 points as well.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints enter the week having dropped back-to-back games after falling 65-58 at Ohio Christian on Thursday (Nov. 4). Aquinas hosts Huntington on Tuesday evening before entertaining Lourdes. Marissa Brady has appeared in just one game for the Saints, but scored 19 points and added nine rebounds in her season debut against the Trailblazers on Thursday. Isabel Reemsnyder is averaging 15.7 points per game as well for Aquinas this year.
WHAC Openers: Lourdes is 2-8 all-time in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference openers entering Wednesday's game at Aquinas. Lourdes has dropped two consecutive league openers after the Gray Wolves fell in their first WHAC game of the 2020-2021 season at home 61-53 against Northwestern Ohio. Lourdes and Aquinas have met in WHAC openers twice before, in the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 campaigns, with the Saints winning both contests.
Record-Setting Effort: Lourdes shattered its school record by scoring 132 points in the victory over Miami-Middletown on Saturday. The previous mark was 107 points scored at Northwestern Ohio on Feb. 14, 2018. The 58-point margin of victory, 132-74, also broke the previous mark of 54 set on Nov. 6, 2018 against Wright State-Lake, 101-47, and matched last season at Akron Wayne in an 81-27 victory.
Getting to the Glass: Lourdes has been able to get to the glass, especially the last two games. The Gray Wolves outrebounded Carlow 46-34 and held a 73-35 advantage against Miami-Middletown. Lourdes pulled down 23 offensive boards against Carlow and had 26 more against the ThunderHawks. On the season the Gray Wolves are averaging 15.8 offensive caroms per night.
Outside Shooting Leads to Scoring Lead: Shae Pedroza leads the Gray Wolves this season averaging 15.6 points per contest. Pedroza is shooting 50% from beyond the arc. The sophomore guard has made 14 of her 28 attempts, averaging nearly three triples per game.
Double-Doubles: Mercedes Wagner registered a pair of double-doubles last week with a 15-point, 10 rebound performance against Carlow and a 29-point, 12-board effort against Miami-Middletown.
Alex Wolfe also had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds against Miami-Middletown, bringing the team total to four.
Gabby Stover had a double-double earlier this season in the opener at Georgetown (Ky.).
Lots in Double Figures: Lourdes had six players tally double figures in the victory over Miami-Middletown.

Shallyn Miley poured in 19 points while
Addie Conroy and
Alex Wolfe each chipped in 12 more.
Maddie Norton scored 10 points in the win.
Forcing Turnovers: Lourdes has forced its opponents into an average of 24.2 turnovers per game through the first five contests. In the three games last week, the Gray Wolves turned their opponents miscues into at least 25 points per contest. Of the 121 total turnovers forced, 57 have been via steals, led by 11 from
Mercedes Wagner.
Lourdes Tabbed 10th in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in 10th place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just behind Northwestern Ohio and just ahead of Madonna in the balloting. Indiana Tech was picked as the preseason favorite.

Shae Pedroza has started all 24 games during her career ... Pedroza is shooting 93.3% (14-of-15) from the free throw line ... with a win at Aquinas, the Gray Wolves would match the school record with four consecutive victories.
