Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: After a 10-day hiatus for final exams, Lourdes returns to the hardwood with a pair of home games in a three-day stretch. The Gray Wolves play their final Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference game before the holiday break on Saturday, hosting Cornerstone, before stepping out of league action to entertain Olivet on Monday night.
Head Coach Tandy Bradford: In her first season on the Lourdes bench,
Tandy Bradford sports an 3-7 (.300) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her fourth season overall as a collegiate head coach, Bradford has a 24-66 (.267) career mark. She is the fifth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Cornerstone holds a 14-5 all-time advantage against Lourdes in a series that began Dec. 10, 2011. The Golden Eagles snapped Lourdes four-game winning streak in the series with a 73-62 victory over the Gray Wolves in Grand Rapids, Mich. in last year's lone meeting between the two schools. Lourdes holds a 3-1 series edge against Cornerstone inside the Ebeid Rec Center. The Gray Wolves hold a 2-1 series advantage against Olivet dating back to Nov. 26, 2016. Lourdes won the last meeting between the two schools, 40-38, on Nov. 2, 2019 in the only previous game played inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes entered the fourth quarter within three of Lawrence Tech on Wednesday (Dec. 1), but the Blue Devils scored the first eight points of the final stanza and defeated the Gray Wolves 68-60 in Southfield, Mich.
Gabby Stover paced Lourdes with 13 points and nine rebounds while
Logan Ingram came off the bench to add 11 points.
Shallyn Miley chipped in 10 points for Lourdes.
Scouting Cornerstone: The Golden Eagles snapped their six-game losing skid on Wednesday evening (Dec. 8) with a 65-61 victory over Roosevelt at home. Mackenzie Stien leads the Cornerstone offense, averaging 13.3 points per game. Olivia Kubik has added 9.5 points per night. On the glass, Ellen Kresge and Emma Costen share the team lead pulling down 5.3 rebounds per night. Cornerstone is averaging 62.8 points per game.
Scouting Olivet: The Comets enter the week having dropped seven straight games following a 78-44 setback at Albion on Saturday (Dec. 4). Olivet hosts Great Lakes Christian on Thursday and travels to Trine on Saturday before visiting Lourdes. Brianna Alexander leads the Comets in scoring, averaging 13.0 points per game. Zoee Zatarga adds 11.9 points per outing while grabbing a team-leading 7.0 rebounds per game this season. Olivet is averaging just 52.1 points per game this season.
Welcome Back Gabby: After missing a pair of games,
Gabby Stover returned to the lineup to lead the Gray Wolves in scoring and rebounding against Lawrence Tech. The sophomore scored 13 points, her fifth game this season with double figures, while grabbing nine rebounds, one shy of her season high.
Getting to the Offensive Glass: Lourdes has grabbed 20 more offensive rebounds that its opponents this season, averaging 14.2 offensive boards per night. The Gray Wolves have had double figure offensive rebounding totals in seven of their 10 games this year.
Shallyn Miley is pulling down 2.9 offensive rebounds per game while
Alex Wolfe has as many offensive as defensive rebounds this year (20 of each).
The Intangibles: Mercedes Wagner has led Lourdes in the little things this season. In addition to being the team's leading rebounder at 7.2 boards per night, the sophomore transfer leads Lourdes with eight blocked shots and is second on the team in scoring (11.3 points per game) and steals (16).
Home Sweet Home: After playing just one home game since Nov. 6, Lourdes returns to the Ebeid Rec Center for three of its next four contests before the holiday break. The Gray Wolves are 3-1 this season playing in their friendly confines.
A Mixed Up Lineup: Through 10 games, Lourdes has had nine different players earn at least one starting assignment, with not a single player drawing the starting nod in all nine contests. In fact,
Shallyn Miley is the only Gray Wolf to start nine of the 10 games.
Record-Setting Effort: Lourdes shattered its school record by scoring 132 points in the victory over Miami-Middletown on Nov. 6. The previous mark was 107 points scored at Northwestern Ohio on Feb. 14, 2018. The 58-point margin of victory, 132-74, also broke the previous mark of 54 set on Nov. 6, 2018 against Wright State-Lake, 101-47, and matched last season at Akron Wayne in an 81-27 victory.
Lourdes Tabbed 10th in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in 10th place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just behind Northwestern Ohio and just ahead of Madonna in the balloting. Indiana Tech was picked as the preseason favorite.
This and That: Lourdes forced 20 turnovers against Lawrence Tech, the sixth time this season the Gray Wolves have pressured a team into 20 or more miscues ... the Gray Wolves handed out 15 assists at Lawrence Tech, the second most in a game this year ... opponents are shooting just 28.9% from three-point range against Lourdes this year ...
