Lourdes Set to Challenge Top-Seeded Rochester in WHAC Tournament Action

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Postseason play arrives for the second consecutive season for Lourdes women's basketball.  The eighth-seeded Gray Wolves travel to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular season champion Rochester (Mich.) on Thursday evening for the quarterfinals of the WHAC tournament.

Head Coach John Kenger: In his third season on the Lourdes bench, John Kenger sports an 26-51 (.338) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  In his sixth season overall as a women's collegiate head coach, Kenger has a 65-105 (.382) career mark.  He is the fourth head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Rochester (Mich.) leads the all-time series against Lourdes 9-1 dating back to Jan. 23, 2012.  The Warriors have won seven consecutive meetings between the two schools after winning the regular season contest this season 63-50 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.  Rochester is 4-0 all-time against the Gray Wolves in Rochester Hills, Mich.

This Season's Previous Meeting: Lourdes shot just 28.1% from the floor at home on Feb. 7 in falling to Rochester (Mich.) 63-50.  Mary Liedel tallied 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the only Gray Wolf to finish in double figures.  The Warriors connected at just a 35.0% clip on the afternoon as well.  Delaney Bolles led Rochester with 20 points while Jacara Thompson added 15 more.

Wrapping Up the Regular Season: Lourdes dropped three games in three days to close out the 2020-2021 regular season.  Lourdes fell at ninth-ranked Indiana Tech 63-41 on Sunday afternoon.  Gabby Stover paced the Gray Wolves with 13 points while Mary Liedel grabbed 10 rebounds.  On Monday, Lourdes led Concordia (Mich.) at halftime, but the Cardinals rallied for a 71-66 win inside the Ebeid Rec Center in a make-up contest.  Shae Pedroza tallied 20 points while Liedel added 19 for the Gray Wolves.  On Tuesday in the regular season finale, Concordia won the rematch with Lourdes 75-62 in Ann Arbor, Mich.  Liedel had 16 points while Sara Semler added 12 more.

Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors enter the WHAC tournament having won 12 consecutive games after defeating Cornerstone 95-82 on the road in Tuesday's regular season finale.  Jacara Thompson leads Rochester averaging 17.1 points per game while Delaney Bolles has added 16.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per night.  Elysia Mattos chips in 10.8 points per game.  Cianna Gloster is the team's leading rebounder, pulling down 8.9 boards per outing.  The Warriors are averaging 74.6 points per game this season while allowing 65.4 points from the opposition.

Lourdes in the WHAC Tournament: Lourdes is competing in the WHAC tournament for just the second time in program history.  The Gray Wolves were also the eighth seed in 2020 falling on the road 74-41 at Indiana Tech in the quarterfinals.

Semler Tops Assist List: Sara Semler has registered 236 career assists during her four years with the Gray Wolves, most in program history.  She set the school mark at Madonna and has since added to it.  Semler set a career-high at Aquinas (Feb. 13) with nine assists.

Among the Nation's Best: Sara Semler ranks 21st among all NAIA players with a 2.82 assist-to-turnover ratio this season.  The senior guard has dished out 62 helpers while committing just 22 turnovers on the year.

Liedel Shooting the Ball Well from Three: Mary Liedel has been the Gray Wolves' top three-point shooter this season.  The junior has drained 29 triples in 17 games and her 41.4% shooting from beyond the arc ranks her 38th among all NAIA players nationally.

An All-Around Leader: Mary Liedel leads Lourdes in several statistical categories this season.  She is averaging a team-high 12.7 points as the only Gray Wolf to tally double figures.  Liedel is also pulling down a team-best 6.5 rebounds per game.  She has a team-leading seven blocked shots and is shooting 45.5% from the floor.

Double Trouble: Lourdes has had two players record a total of three double-doubles this season.  Mary Liedel scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds at home against Indiana Tech and tallied 17 points and had 10 boards at Aquinas on Feb. 13.  Gabby Stover recorded her first collegiate double-double on Feb. 3 at Siena Heights with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

On the Steals Chart: Sara Semler also ranks third all-time for the Gray Wolves with 115 career steals.  Jesse Fidler (2014-2017) is the school record-holder with 156 thefts while Molea Thompson (2014-2017) is second with 132.

This and That: Lourdes has only played one overtime game since 2016 (Jan. 4, 2020 - Ohio Christian) ... Mary Liedel, Shae Pedroza, and Sara Semler have started all 17 games ... 13 different Gray Wolves have made a three-pointer this season.
