Men's Basketball Returns to the Hardwood with Three Games This Week

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes begins the homestretch of the season playing five of its final six regular season games away from home.  The Gray Wolves travel to Madonna on Wednesday evening before heading to Aquinas on Saturday afternoon.  The final scheduled home regular season game will take place Sunday on Senior Day as Siena Heights visits the Ebeid Rec Center.

Head Coach Dennis Hopson: In his second season on the Lourdes bench, Dennis Hopson is 26-13 (.667) with the Gray Wolves and as a men's collegiate head coach.  He is only the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Madonna holds a 13-9 all-time advantage against the Gray Wolves dating back to Nov. 6, 2010.  The two sides split a pair of meetings last season with the Crusaders winning in Sylvania 72-68 before Lourdes won in Livonia, Mich. 87-77 in overtime.  The Gray Wolves are 6-5 all-time in Livonia.  The Gray Wolves are 10-8 all-time against Aquinas dating back to Nov. 30, 2011.  Lourdes swept last season's meetings winning 63-58 in Grand Rapids, Mich. and 71-69 in double-overtime at home.  The Saints hold a 5-4 edge all-time in Grand Rapids.  Lourdes holds a 12-8 series edge against Siena Heights dating back to Nov. 12, 2011.  The Gray Wolves have won three straight in the series after winning 72-66 in the Ebeid Rec Center and 64-61 in Adrian, Mich. last season.  The series is tied 2-2 all-time in the Ebeid Rec Center.

Wrapping Up Last Time Out: Lourdes has been idle since Jan. 31, when the Gray Wolves pulled away from Concordia (Mich.) in the second half, defeating the Cardinals 82-62 at home.  Anderson tallied 20 points and Mike Bruce added 13 more.  Welch had a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds while Snow also scored 12 points.  The Gray Wolves' three scheduled games last week were postponed.

Scouting Madonna: The Crusaders have won five consecutive games after downing Concordia (Mich.) 76-63 at home on Sunday.  Henry Speight leads Madonna in scoring, averaging 22.9 points per game while Mark Mettie adds 17.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per night.  Noah Campbell is also tallying double figures, scoring 10.8 points per outing for the Crusaders.

Scouting Aquinas: The Saints snapped a six-game losing streak to open the season on Sunday with an 84-64 victory on the road at Northwestern Ohio.  Aquinas hosts Siena Heights on Wednesday before entertaining Lourdes.  Jesse Hillis leads Aquinas averaging 13.3 points per game while Sammie Ryans adds 12.3 points per outing.  Deric Murray has chipped in 10.0 points per contest.
 
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints enter the week having fallen 72-66 at home to Lawrence Tech last Sunday.  Siena Heights heads to Aquinas on Wednesday and hosts Rochester (Mich.) on Saturday before visiting Lourdes.  Kevin Rice leads Siena Heights in scoring, averaging 18.0 points per game.  Curtis Bell III has added 11.8 points and a team-leading 8.6 rebounds per contest.  

Senior Day: Lourdes will honor its seven seniors prior to Sunday's game against Siena Heights.  Mike Bruce, Tyler Davis, Julian Egbo, Deuce Martin, Clif Snow, Nick Welch, and McRay White will be recognized for their contributions to the program.
 
School Record Holder: Clif Snow has become Lourdes all-time leading scorer after making a three-pointer in the first half against Concordia (Mich.) on Jan. 31.  Snow, who entered the game tied with Zach Steinmetz (2013-2016) for the scoring mark with 1,395 career points, now has 1,407 over his four years with the Gray Wolves.  

Welch a Double-Double Machine: Nick Welch has tallied four double-doubles in the first eight games of the season after registering a 12-point, 15-rebound performance against Concordia (Mich.).  The senior is averaging 12.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game this season..

Crashing the Offensive Glass: Lourdes ranks 13th among all NAIA schools averaging 13.5 offensive rebounds per game.  Individually, Nick Welch is seventh on the offensive glass, grabbing 3.625 offensive rebounds per outing.  Lourdes has turned its 108 offensive rebounds this year into 127 second chance points.

Taking Care of the Basketball: Lourdes has handed out 120 assists and committed just 92 turnovers this season while the defensively yielding just 94 assists and forcing 113 miscues.  As a team, Lourdes' 1.30 assist-to-turnover ratio ranks 18th nationally.

More Changes in NAIA: This year the NAIA has combined Division I and Division II into just one division for basketball.  A total of 48 schools will qualify for the NAIA National Championships with 16 teams hosting three-team regionals.  The final 16 teams will then advance to Kansas City, Mo.

This and That: Lourdes ranks 13th in NAIA in scoring defense yielding just 68.2 points per game ... the Gray Wolves are shooting 44.2% from the floor and 72.4% from the free throw line.
