Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Riding an eight-game winning streak, Lourdes returns to the Ebeid Rec Center for four straight games beginning this week. The Gray Wolves put their perfect home mark on the line Wednesday night hosting Concordia (Mich.) before entertaining Rochester (Mich.) in a Saturday matinee.
Head Coach Dennis Hopson: In his second season on the Lourdes bench,
Dennis Hopson is 42-20 (.677) with the Gray Wolves and as a men's collegiate head coach. He is only the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes holds a 14-9 all-time series edge against Concordia (Mich.) in a series that began Nov. 2, 2010. The Gray Wolves have won five straight meetings with the Cardinals after sweeping last year's meetings with an 82-62 win in the Ebeid Rec Center and a 75-68 triumph in Ann Arbor, Mich. Lourdes is 4-1 all-time against Concordia in the Ebeid Rec Center. Rochester (Mich.) is 8-1 all-time against the Gray Wolves dating back to Jan. 22, 2011. The Warriors have not met Lourdes since the 2019-2020 season when Rochester posted a 73-66 win in Rochester Hills, Mich. and a 75-61 triumph in the Ebeid Rec Center. Rochester has won all three previous meetings in the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes pulled away from Siena Heights in the second half on Wednesday (Jan. 5) and defeated the Saints 76-58.
McRay White (16 pts, 10 rebs) and
Joey Holifield (12 pts, 10 rebs) both had double-doubles while
Little Anderson scored 22 points. On Saturday, the Gray Wolves jumped out to a 22-point halftime lead and defeated Michigan-Dearborn 76-53. White had 17 points and 17 boards while Anderson tallied 23 points.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals had their three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday (Jan. 8) with a 77-56 setback against Rochester (Mich.). Thomas Hronis leads Concordia averaging 14.2 points per game while Colton Ritsema adds 10.5 points per night. Devyn Jones leads Concordia on the glass, grabbing 7.7 rebounds per outing.
Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors have won four consecutive games after downing Concordia (Mich.) 77-56 on Saturday (Jan. 8). Diego Robinson leads Rochester averaging 13.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game while AJ Johnson adds 12.5 points per night. Virgil Walker Jr. is also averaging in double figures for the Warriors, scoring 11.6 points per game.
Schedule Update: The Dec. 30 game at Rochester (Mich.) was postponed due to COVID-19. It has been rescheduled for Jan. 24 at 5:30 p.m. in Rochester Hills, Mich.
White Garners WHAC Honors: McRay White was named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Player of the Week after averaging 16.5 points and 13.5 rebounds in the two wins. White began the week with a 16-point, 10-rebound effort against Siena Heights and followed that effort up with a 17-point, 17-rebound performance for his second straight double-double in the victory at Michigan-Dearborn.
Anderson Has Big Week: Little Anderson had back-to-back 20-point games last week for the Gray Wolves. He tallied 22 points in the victory over Siena Heights before following that effort up with 23 points, matching his career-high, versus Michigan-Dearborn. Anderson also scored 23 points as a rookie at Akron-Wayne on Jan. 25, 2020.
On a Winning Streak: Lourdes current eight-game winning streak is tied for the second longest streak in program history. The last time the Gray Wolves won eight straight games was from Nov. 23, 2019-Jan. 8, 2020. Lourdes also won eight in a row from Jan. 23-Feb. 13, 2013. The program's school-record 11-game winning streak took place from Nov. 23, 2019-Jan. 8, 2020.
Home Sweet Home: Lourdes enters this four-game homestand a perfect 7-0 inside the Ebeid Rec Center this season. In fact, the Gray Wolves have won 14 consecutive games at home after going 7-0 last season as well. The Gray Wolves' last home loss came against Cornerstone on Feb. 26, 2020 in the WHAC quarterfinals.
Making Free Throws: Lourdes is shooting 76.0% from the charity stripe as a team this season, a mark that ranks 15th in the NAIA.
Jackie Harris has connected at an 89.5% clip this season while
Joey Holifield has shot 86.8% from the line to lead the way.
Rewrite the Record Books: Lourdes set a new school record earlier this season with 116 points against East-West in the season opener on Oct. 26 but re-broke the mark on Dec. 20 with 117 points at Penn State-Shenango. In fact, the top three scoring games in program history have all happened this season as the Gray Wolves also tallied 115 points at Wilberforce on Nov. 13. The previous record prior to this season was 114 points against Wright State-Lake in 2019.
This and That: The Gray Wolves are outscoring their opposition by 21.6 points per night ... Lourdes ranks 8th in NAIA averaging 89.0 points per game ...
