Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: A busy stretch of games continues for Lourdes as the Gray Wolves conclude a four-game in eight-day span. The Gray Wolves entertain Aquinas on Wednesday and Lawrence Tech on Saturday before making up a game versus Rochester (Mich.) Monday night.
Head Coach Tandy Bradford: In her first season on the Lourdes bench,
Tandy Bradford sports an 7-12 (.368) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her fourth season overall as a collegiate head coach, Bradford has a 28-71 (.283) career mark. She is the fifth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Aquinas holds a 19-1 series edge against Lourdes dating back to Nov. 30, 2011. The Saints won 56-37 on Nov. 10 in the season's first contest. Aquinas is 3-1 against Lourdes in the Ebeid Rec Center. Lawrence Tech holds a 14-4 advantage against the Gray Wolves dating back to Nov. 17, 2012. The Blue Devils won this season's first meeting 68-060 in Southfield, Mich. on Dec. 1. Lawrence Tech is 4-1 against Lourdes in the Ebeid Rec Center. Rochester (Mich.) is 11-2 all-time against Lourdes in a series that began Jan. 23, 2012. The Warriors won the first meeting this year 86-68 on Dec. 30 in Rochester Hills, Mich. Rochester is 4-0 against Lourdes in the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Concordia (Mich.) shot nearly 50% from the floor on Wednesday (Jan. 12) and defeated Lourdes 69-57 in the Ebeid Rec Center.
Mercedes Wagner led the Gray Wolves with 16 points while
Maddie Norton added 11 more. On Monday, the Gray Wolves shot just 26.7% from the field in dropping a 54-41 decision at home against Siena Heights. Wagner led Lourdes with 13 points while
Logan Ingram and
Winter Richburg added seven points.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints have won back-to-back games after defeating Cornerstone 61-56 at home on Saturday (Jan. 15). Marissa Brady leads Aquinas averaging 14.3 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. Daz'Sha Day is the only other Saint averaging in double figures, scoring 10.8 points per night.
Scouting Lawrence Tech: The Blue Devils have lost three straight after falling to Siena Heights 73-58 on Saturday (Jan. 15). Lawrence Tech visits Concordia (Mich.) on Wednesday before heading to Lourdes. Kendall Fisher leads the Blue Devils scoring 17.8 points per game while Julia Huey adds 10.0 per night. Kylee Batey leads Lawrence Tech on the glass, pulling down 7.5 rebounds per night.
Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors are coming off an 86-79 loss at Concordia (Mich.) on Jan. 8. Rochester hosts Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday and heads to Siena Heights on Saturday prior to visiting Lourdes. Jacara Thompson is averaging a team-leading 13.2 points per game while Elysia Mattos adds 13.1 points per night. Lauren Wynn chips in 11.5 points and a team-high 5.8 rebounds per contest.
Another Postponement: The Lourdes-Rochester (Mich.) game that was slated for the Ebeid Rec Center on Jan. 15 was postponed due to COVID-19. The game will be made up on Monday, Jan. 24 at 6 p.m.
Getting Defensive: In Monday's game against Siena Heights, Lourdes forced 28 turnovers by the Saints, the second highest total for an opponent this season behind the 30 that Carlow committed on Nov. 4. The Gray Wolves had 13 steals against the Saints, led by
Shae Pedroza's four, and limited Siena Heights to just 32.1% shooting from the field.
Wagner Consistently in Double Figures: Mercedes Wagner has tallied double figures in scoring in six consecutive games after leading Lourdes with 16 points against Concordia (Mich.) and 13 versus Siena Heights. Wagner has tallied 10 or more points in 12 of her 17 games this year. She has three double-doubles this year as well while leading the Gray Wolves scoring 12.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per night.
Sharing the Wealth: Lourdes has spread out its playing time this season. Of the 13 players on the current roster, 12 are averaging 11 or minutes for the games in which they have seen action on the court. A total of 10 different players have started at least one contest this year while only
Winter Richburg and
Mercedes Wagner taking the floor in all 19 contests.
A Historic Victory: Lourdes snapped a 50-game losing skid against NAIA top-25 opponents on New Year's Day with its victory at 24th-ranked Mount Vernon Nazarene. The win was just the second all-time against ranked foes, improving to 2-51 all-time. Lourdes only other victory against a ranked team came on Nov. 5, 2011 at 18th-ranked Indiana-Northwest.
Record-Setting Effort: Lourdes shattered its school record by scoring 132 points in the victory over Miami-Middletown on Nov. 6. The previous mark was 107 points scored at Northwestern Ohio on Feb. 14, 2018. The 58-point margin of victory, 132-74, also broke the previous mark of 54 set on Nov. 6, 2018 against Wright State-Lake, 101-47, and matched last season at Akron Wayne in an 81-27 victory.
This and That: Lourdes has been outscored in both the first and third quarters this year but rebounded to outscore its opposition in the second and fourth stanzas ... the Gray Wolves are home for seven of their final 11 games, including six of the next seven ...
