Led by
Olivia Mathis' (Akron, Ohio/Saint Vincent-Saint Mary H.S.) top-20 individual finish, Lourdes placed eighth at the Bethel Invitational on Friday afternoon at St. Patrick's County Park in South Bend, Ind.
Mathis finished 20
th overall with a time of 20:39.0, her best five-kilometer time of the season.
The Gray Wolves finished the meet with 213 points, just two behind seventh place St. Ambrose in the final standings.
"I was very please with our race today," head coach
Cheryl McLean said afterwards. "The ladies raced strong and continue to improve."
Jasmine Berti (Phoenix, Ariz./Sandra Day O'Connor H.S.) finished second for Lourdes with a time of 22:49.9, leading a trio of Gray Wolves all of whom were within 16 seconds of one another.
Olivia Waterstradt (Dundee, Mich./Dundee H.S.) followed, crossing the finish line in 22:51.8 while
Taylor Imus (Portage, Mich./Central H.S.) finished in 23:05.6.
Madelynn DuBois (Sylvania, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.), making her season debut, rounded out the scoring for Lourdes with a time of 24:24.0.
Emily Arenas from the Notre Dame Running Club won the race with a time of 18:56.4.
Lourdes will have two weeks off before returning to action on Oct. 22 at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge. The gun will fire at 12:45 p.m. at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids, Mich.
