Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes continues its season-opening homestand this week with its final two games prior to the start of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play. The Gray Wolves will host Spring Arbor on Thursday evening before entertaining Adrian on Saturday afternoon as part of Homecoming weekend on campus.
Head Coach Tandy Bradford: In her second season on the Lourdes bench,
Tandy Bradford sports a 11-20 (.355) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her fifth season overall as a collegiate head coach, Bradford has a 32-79 (.288) career mark. She is the fifth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Spring Arbor leads the all-time series against Lourdes 4-1 dating back to Nov. 8, 2011. The Gray Wolves earned their first victory in the series last season with a 70-60 triumph on Nov. 2 inside the Ebeid Rec Center. This will be the Cougars third trip to Sylvania, but just the second to the Ebeid Rec Center, after Spring Arbor won the initial contest at Tam-o-Shanter in 2011. Lourdes and Adrian will be meeting on the hardwood for the first time ever in women's basketball on Saturday.
Wrapping Up Last Week: The Gray Wolves opened the 2022-2023 season on Friday evening with a 72-65 victory over Mount Vernon Nazarene at home.
Shae Pedroza led the way with 13 points while
Halle Barnett added 11 more.
Nadeen Jemaa made it three Gray Wolves in double figures, scoring 10 points while handing out four assists.
Tamyah Worthy pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
Scouting Spring Arbor: The Cougars have won both of their first two games this season after defeating Great Lakes Christian 81-38 on Tuesday afternoon. Alex Long scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the season-opening victory at Cornerstone while Grace Shoobridge added 17 points. Alize Tripp also scored in double figures against the Golden Eagles, tallying 14 points.
Scouting Adrian: The Bulldogs will be opening their season on Saturday at Lourdes, playing the game as an exhibition contest. Adrian went 8-17 in 2021-2022 and posted a 5-11 record in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Bulldogs return nine players from last year's squad. Makayla Clement is the team's top returning scorer after averaging 7.2 points per game last season. She is also the Adrian's top returning rebounder, grabbing 4.0 boards per contest.
Barnett Shines in Debut: Halle Barnett took to the court for the first time as a Gray Wolf on Friday against Mount Vernon Nazarene. The junior transfer made 5-of-7 shots from the floor on the way to scoring 11 points. She also blocked a shot on the defensive end of the floor.
Second Chances: Lourdes made the most of its second chance opportunities in the opener against Mount Vernon Nazarene. The Gray Wolves grabbed 10 offensive rebounds, leading to 15 second chance points. Lourdes surrendered 10 offensive boards as well, but the Cougars only were able to capitalize to score four points.
Reserves Crash the Boards: The Lourdes bench accounted for 26 of the Gray Wolves' 43 rebounds against Mount Vernon Nazarene.
Tamyah Worthy had a team-high seven boards while
Alex Wolfe grabbed six more in 18 and 16 minutes of action off the bench respectively.
Nearly Five in Double Figures: Lourdes finished the opener with three players scoring in double figures, led by
Shae Pedroza's 13 points.
Halle Barnett added 11 points and
Nadeen Jemaa chipped in 10 more.
Alex Wolfe and
Tamyah Worthy both nearly reached double figures as well coming off the bench, as each finished with nine points.
Making Their Debuts: Five players made their first appearance in a Lourdes uniform against Mount Vernon Nazarene last week. Transfers
Zaria Bridgewater and
Halle Barnett played their first game in their new uniform.
Emma Pedroza,
Macie Stringfellow, and
Tamyah Worthy all stepped on the a collegiate court for the first time in their career as well.
Against the Crossroads League: Lourdes is 6-12 all-time against current members of the Crossroads League. In addition to going 1-4 against Spring Arbor, the Gray Wolves have wins over Goshen (3-1) and Mount Vernon Nazarene (2-2). Lourdes has also faced Marian (0-1), Saint Francis (Ind.) (0-1), and Taylor (0-3).
Facing the MIAA: While Lourdes will be battling Adrian for the first time, the Bulldogs will not be the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opponent the Gray Wolves have faced. Lourdes is 3-3 against the conference, posting a 3-1 record versus Olivet while going 0-1 against both Alma and Trine.
Lourdes Tabbed Seventh in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in seventh place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just behind Concordia (Mich.) and just ahead of Madonna in the balloting. Indiana Tech was tabbed as the preseason favorite.
This and That: Lourdes is improved to 7-5 all-time in season openers and 9-3 in home openers with the win over Mount Vernon Nazarene ...
