Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes remains on the road with three games this week around the holiday. The Gray Wolves travel to Northwestern Ohio on Tuesday for Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action. Following Thanksgiving, Lourdes heads to the Saint Francis (Ill.) Thanksgiving Classic, facing the hosts Saints as well as East-West on Saturday and Sunday.
Head Coach Dennis Hopson: In his fourth season on the Lourdes bench,
Dennis Hopson is 57-26 (.687) with the Gray Wolves and as a men's collegiate head coach. He is only the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: The Gray Wolves hold a 14-11 series advantage against Northwestern Ohio dating back to Dec. 30, 2010. The two schools split a pair of meetings last season, with each school defending their home court. Lourdes was a 94-69 winner in the Ebeid Rec Center before the Racers scored a 70-64 victory in Lima, Ohio. Northwestern Ohio holds an 8-5 edge in Lima. Lourdes and Saint Francis (Ill.) will meet for the first time in men's hoops on Saturday. The Gray Wolves hold a 4-0 all-time advantage against East-West. Last season the Gray Wolves were 116-54 victors inside the Ebeid Rec Center. Lourdes won the only previous neutral site contest as well, 76-72, in 2018.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes scored a 66-60 victory on the road at Siena Heights on Wednesday.
Jackie Harris scored 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds while
Joey Holifield added 14 points.
Clif Snow also finished in double figures with his 13-point effort. Saturday's game at Cornerstone was postponed due to travel difficulties by the Gray Wolves on the trip to Grand Rapids, Mich.
Scouting Northwestern Ohio: The Racers have dropped six straight games after falling 69-68 at home against Siena Heights on Saturday. Biggz Johnson leads Northwestern Ohio averaging 18.3 points per game while Mohamad Kraidly adds 12.7 points per night. Huner Bod is also scoring in double figure, tallying 11.1 points per contest while grabbing a team-best 5.9 rebounds per game.
Scouting Saint Francis (Ill.): The Fighting Saints have played just one regular season game entering the week, having defeated Calumet 71-66 on Nov. 9. Saint Francis hosts Roosevelt on Tuesday before facing Lourdes. Darious Wright scored 17 points in the opener while Carter Fayhee and Don Joachim added 13 points each. Fayhee also grabbed 10 rebounds.
Scouting East-West: No information about the Phantoms was available as of Monday afternoon.
Schedule Updates: The Gray Wolves' game that was slated for New Year's Eve against Windsor has been moved to Jan. 3 with a 1 p.m. tip time. In addition, the postponed contest against Cornerstone will be made up at a date yet to be determined.
Another Double-Double for Harris: Jackie Harris recorded his second double-double of the season on Wednesday at Siena Heights. He scored a season-high 21 points while pulling down 10 rebounds to follow up his first double-double on Nov. 12 with his 11-point, 10-rebound effort against Michigan-Dearborn. Harris now has four double-doubles in his Lourdes career and both of the Gray Wolves' double-doubles this year.
That's Solid Shooting: Marcus Larsson has been effective in the post for the Gray Wolves this season. The senior transfer is shooting 63.2% from the floor this year while averaging 7.0 points per game in his first year at Lourdes.
Joey Holifield has connected at a 55.8% clip from the floor as well. Holifield is the Gray Wolves' second leading scorer at 12.2 points per night.
Anderson Nearing 900 Career Points: Little Anderson enters the week needing just two more points to reach 900 for his career at Lourdes. The senior has averaged 10.8 points per game during his four years with the Gray Wolves.
Taking Care of the Basketball: Lourdes has handed out nearly as many assists as turnovers this year at a 60-to-63 ratio. The Gray Wolves are averaging just 12.5 miscues to per game.
Clif Snow has 10 assists while committing just five turnovers and
Brett Lauf has a team-high 17 helpers.
Lourdes Tabbed Third in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in third place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just ahead of Cornerstone and just behind Madonna in the league balloting. Indiana Tech is the favorite to win the WHAC in 2022-2023.
