Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: The home portion of the 2022-2023 men's basketball season tips off on Saturday afternoon. The Gray Wolves welcome Adrian to the Ebeid Rec Center as part of Homecoming weekend on the Lourdes University campus.
Head Coach Dennis Hopson: In his fourth season on the Lourdes bench,
Dennis Hopson is 54-25 (.684) with the Gray Wolves and as a men's collegiate head coach. He is only the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: The Gray Wolves won the only previous game against Adrian 89-66 on Dec. 15, 2021 inside the Ebeid Rec Center. This is the second consecutive season the two schools are meeting on Lourdes' home court.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes tipped off its season last Saturday with an 87-74 victory on the road at Wilberforce.
Joey Holifield led the way with 18 points and six assists while
Jackie Harris added a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Clif Snow chipped in 15 points and
Marcus Larsson added 14 more.
Charles Swain gave the Gray Wolves five players in double figures, posting 10 points in the season opener.
Scouting Adrian: The Bulldogs will be opening their season on Saturday at Lourdes, playing the game as an exhibition contest. Adrian went 5-21 overall in 2021-2022 and posted a 4-10 mark in the Michigan-Intercollegiate Athletic Association. The Bulldogs return 10 players from last year's squad. De'Ovion Price is the team's top returning scorer after averaging 14.5 points per game last season. Kendall Chrismon added 9.9 points per night for Adrian.
Home Sweet Home: Lourdes is 11-1 all-time in home openers, including a perfect 6-0 inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center. Last season the Gray Wolves opened the home slate with a 116-54 win over East-West. The Gray Wolves went 5-1 in their former home, Tam-o-Shanter, prior to the 2016-2017 season. The only home opener Lourdes has lost came to top-ranked Cornerstone in 2015.
Sharing the Wealth: Lourdes finished the season opener with five players scoring in double figures and another just missing with nine points.
Joey Holifield led the way with 18 points while
Jackie Harris added 17 more.
Clif Snow (15),
Marcus Larsson (14), and
Charles Swain (10) all scored 10 or more points on the day while
Little Anderson tallied nine.
Welcome Back Clif: Clif Snow returned to the floor in the season opener after not playing basketball in 2021-2022. The three-time First Team All-WHAC earned NAIA Honorable Mention All-America honors in 2019-2020. He scored 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting and grabbed five rebounds at Wilberforce.
Larsson Impressive in Debut: Marcus Larsson had a solid first game wearing the terra cotta and black. The transfer from NCAA Division I Illinois-Chicago scored 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting while pulling down six rebounds.
Double Trouble: Jackie Harris opened his second season with the Gray Wolves tallying a double-double. He scored 17 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. The senior had a pair of double-doubles last season, giving him three now for his career.
Taking Care of the Basketball: Lourdes committed juts nine turnovers in the season opener while handing out 18 assists.
Joey Holifield led the way dishing out six helpers while
Brett Lauf added three dimes. Defensively, the Gray Wolves forced Wilberforce into 20 miscues in game one.
Snow Nearing 1,500 Career Points: Clif Snow needs just two points to reach the 1,500-point plateau for his career. He has averaged 14.4 points per game during his time with the Gray Wolves.
Winning Season Openers: The victory over Wilberforce marked the seventh time in the last eight years that Lourdes won its first game of the season. All-time, the Gray Wolves are 9-4 in season openers.
Against the MIAA: The game against Adrian last season marked the first time a Lourdes men's basketball team played against a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe. The MIAA is a Division III conference will all eight members located in Michigan.
Lourdes Tabbed Third in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in third place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just ahead of Cornerstone and just behind Madonna in the league balloting. Indiana Tech is the favorite to win the WHAC in 2022-2023.
This and That: Lourdes is 183-171 all-time in the program's 13th season ... last season was the Gray Wolves third NAIA National Championship appearance (along with 2012 and 2013) ... the Gray Wolves are 52-27 all-time inside the Ebeid Rec Center ...
