Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes begins a busy stretch as the Gray Wolves will play three times in a four-day span beginning on Wednesday evening, hosting East-West in non-conference action. The Gray Wolves head to Cornerstone on Thursday for their final Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference game of the calendar year before returning home Saturday afternoon to entertain Rio Grande.
Head Coach Dennis Hopson: In his fourth season on the Lourdes bench,
Dennis Hopson is 61-28 (.685) with the Gray Wolves and as a men's collegiate head coach. He is only the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: The Gray Wolves are 5-0 all-time against East-West dating back to Oct. 31, 2018. Lourdes defeated the Phantoms 115-65 earlier this season on Nov. 27 as part of the St. Francis (Ill.) Thanksgiving Classic. Cornerstone is 21-3 all-time against Lourdes in a series that began Dec. 10, 2011. The two schools split last season's meetings with the Gray Wolves winning 89-66 in the Ebeid Rec Center and the Golden Eagles winning in Grand Rapids, Mich., 87-67. Cornerstone is 12-1 against Lourdes in Grand Rapids. Lourdes is 3-0 against East-West inside the Ebeid Rec Center. Lourdes is 2-0 all-time against Rio Grande in a series that began Dec. 1, 2019. The Gray Wolves won last year's contest 70-53 in Rio Grande, Ohio. This will be the Red Storm's first trip to the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes cut a 12-point second half deficit to two on Friday evening, but the rally came up short as Madonna downed the Gray Wolves 84-76 in Livonia, Mich.
Joey Holifield paced the Gray Wolves with 27 points while
Little Anderson added 12 more.
Scouting East-West: The Phantoms are coming off an 81-62 setback at Roosevelt on Sunday. Dequanis Jackson led East-West with 18 points in the loss. Kaleb Thomas had 16 points in the first meeting this season against Lourdes.
Scouting Cornerstone: The Golden Eagles enter the week having defeated Siena Heights 89-45 on Saturday afternoon at home. Cory Ainsworth leads Cornerstone averaging 19.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game on the season. Carter Nyp adds 14.8 points per night while Luke Rowlinson chips in 14.3 points per outing. Eli Steffen is also tallying double figures, posting 10.5 points per game.
Scouting Rio Grande: The Red Storm enter the week having won seven straight games after defeating Carlow 89-37 on Saturday. Rio Grande heads to Alice Lloyd on Tuesday before visiting Lourdes. Shiloah Blevins paces the Red Storm averaging 15.4 points per game while grabbing 5.0 rebounds per night. Miki Tadic adds 13.4 points per outing while Kaden Warner is scoring 13.3 points per contest.
Anderson Nearing 1,000 Career Points: Little Anderson enters the week with 962 career points, needing just 38 more to reach 1,000 for his career at Lourdes. The senior has averaged 10.8 points per game during his four years with the Gray Wolves. Anderson will become just the third 1,000-point scorer in program history, joining
Clif Snow (currently with 1,564 points) and Zach Steinmetz (2013-2016) who finished his career with 1,395 points.
Holifield Sets Career High: Joey Holifield tallied a career-high 27 points last Friday at Madonna, playing all 40 minutes. He went 8-of-15 from the floor while making 11-of-15 from the free throw line. The junior is second on the team averaging 15.5 points per outing.
Schedule Updates: Lourdes will make up its Nov. 19 postponement at Cornerstone this Thursday (Dec. 15) with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m. in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Gray Wolves' game that was slated for New Year's Eve against Windsor has been moved to Jan. 3 with a 1 p.m. tip time.
Harris an All-Around Leader: Jackie Harris has led Lourdes in both scoring and rebounding this season. He has tallied 15.8 points per game while pulling down 7.0 boards per night. He had scored in double figures in the first 10 contests this season and 19 straight games dating back to last year, prior to being held to nine points Friday at Madonna.
Getting to the Free Throw Line: Lourdes is shooting 72.7% as a team from the free throw line this season. The Gray Wolves have made more free throws (141) than their opponents have even attempted (133). The opposition is just 66.2% from the charity stripe this year.
Lourdes Tabbed Third in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in third place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just ahead of Cornerstone and just behind Madonna in the league balloting. Indiana Tech is the favorite to win the WHAC in 2022-2023.
This and That: Clif Snow is 13 rebounds shy of 800 in his career at Lourdes and three three-pointers away from 200 during his time with the Gray Wolves ... the Gray Wolves are outrebounding opponents by 3.8 boards per game and grabbing 10.0 offensive rebounds per game ... Lourdes has not played an overtime game since Feb. 5, 2020 against Michigan-Dearborn (lost 86-78).
