Gray Wolves Close 2022 with Exhibition at Toledo, Ring In 2023 Hosting Windsor

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes will close out the 2022 calendar year on Thursday evening, traveling to NCAA Division I Toledo for an exhibition game.  The Gray Wolves will then return to regular season action to ring in 2023 on Jan. 3, hosting Windsor to close out non-conference action.

Head Coach Dennis Hopson: In his fourth season on the Lourdes bench, Dennis Hopson is 63-30 (.677) with the Gray Wolves and as a men's collegiate head coach.  He is only the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes and Toledo are meeting on the hardwood for the first time ever on Thursday evening.  Windsor won the only previous meeting against the Gray Wolves, 74-63, on Nov. 2, 2012.  The first meeting between the two schools was part of the Trent Allen Memorial Tip-off hosted by Spring Arbor.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes shot better than 52% from the floor on Wednesday (Dec. 21) on the way to a 113-62 victory over Lambton at home.  Jackie Harris led the way for the Gray Wolves, notching a double-double with 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Joey Holifield added 15 points.  Stephen Coleman Jr. tallied 13 points and Little Anderson scored 12 more.  Sterling Hopkins made it five Gray Wolves in double figures with his 11-point effort.

Scouting Toledo: The Rockets are coming off an 84-72 victory on the road at Vermont on Dec. 20.  JT Schumate leads Toledo averaging 19.6 points per game while Rayj Dennis is adding 19.0 points per night.  Setric Millner Jr. is tallying 14.2 points and a team-high 7.3 rebounds per contest for the Rockets.  Toledo is playing Lourdes in its final game prior to the start of Mid-American Conference action.

Scouting Windsor: The Lancers have been idle since Dec. 3 when Windsor defeated Lakehead 99-83 at home.  Thomas Kennedy is averaging 19.6 points and 13.5 rebounds per game this season while Najee Brown-Henderson adds 17.1 points per night.  Xavier Ochu is also scoring in double figures, tallying 14.3 points per game for the Lancers.  Windsor competes in league play as a member of Ontario University Athletics. 

Exhibition Action: The game against Toledo will be an exhibition contest for Lourdes, however it will count in the regular season standings for the NCAA Division I Rockets.  Lourdes has played one other game against an NCAA Division I opponent, falling at Bowling Green 97-56 on Dec. 28, 2017.  Stats from the Toledo contest will not count for Lourdes players.

Oh Canada!: When Lourdes faces Windsor, it will mark just the second consecutive game the Gray Wolves face against a Canadian opponent.  Lourdes downed Lambton 113-62 on Dec. 21 to improve to 1-1 against teams from across the border. Lourdes lost to Windsor 74-63 on Nov. 2, 2012 as part of the Trent Allen Memorial Tip-off hosted by Spring Arbor. 

Anderson Surpasses 1,000 Career Points: With his 19-point effort against Rio Grande on Dec. 17, Little Anderson became just the third player in program history to reach 1,000 for his career at Lourdes.  The senior has averaged 10.9 points per game during his four years with the Gray Wolves.  Anderson enters play with 1,017 career points, joining Clif Snow (currently with 1,602 points) and Zach Steinmetz (2013-2016) who finished his career with 1,395 points.

Harris Earns WHAC Honor: Jackie Harris was named the WHAC Player of the Week following the win over Lambton.  In 31 minutes of action, Harris tallied a double-double, his fourth of the season.  He scored a career-high 26 points while pulling down 10 rebounds.  He was 6-of-13 from three-point range.

Snow Nears Rebounding Record: Clif Snow surpassed the 800-rebound mark for his career on with five boards at Cornerstone on Dec. 15.  He is just the second Gray Wolf in program history to reach the 800-board plateau.  Snow is 11 rebounds shy of the program record of 825 boards set by Zach Steinmetz (2013-2016).

Holifield Among Scoring Leaders: Joey Holifield leads Lourdes in scoring this season, averaging 16.1 points per contest.  The Gray Wolves junior ranks seventh in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference with his scoring average.  Holifield has scored in double figures in 14 of 15 games this season and 12 consecutive contests.

Wrapping Up the 2022 Calendar Year: Having played its final regular season game of 2022 last Wednesday, the Gray Wolves closed the calendar year with a 23-10 record.

Gray Wolf Debuts: Four players made their first appearance in a Lourdes uniform in the win over Lambton.  Fahad Tarjali, and Dominique Cole both had collegiate experience prior to this season at previous schools while Jalen Brown and Juan Brown made their collegiate debuts.

Lourdes Tabbed Third in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in third place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  Lourdes was picked just ahead of Cornerstone and just behind Madonna in the league balloting.  Indiana Tech is the favorite to win the WHAC in 2022-2023.

This and That: Clif Snow is two three-pointers away from 200 during his time with the Gray Wolves ... Joey Holifield, Jackie Harris, and Little Anderson have started all 15 games this season ... Harris ranks third in the WHAC making 2.7 three-pointers per game.
