Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes closes out the 2022 calendar year on Thursday evening. The Gray Wolves play their final non-conference game of the season in the Windy City as Lourdes travels to Roosevelt in search of a second consecutive victory.
Head Coach Tandy Bradford: In her second season on the Lourdes bench,
Tandy Bradford sports a 16-29 (.356) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her fifth season overall as a collegiate head coach, Bradford has a 37-88 (.296) career mark. She is the fifth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Roosevelt are meeting on the hardwood for the first time in women's basketball.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes did not allow a field goal in the opening quarter, jumping out to a 24-1 lead after 10 minutes, on Wednesday (Dec. 21) as the Gray Wolves defeated Penn State-Shenango 91-46 at home.
Shae Pedroza scored 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting while
Macie Stringfellow added 14 points.
Emma Pedroza and
Mercedes Wagner were both 6-of-7 off the bench scoring 13 and 12 points respectively.
Scouting Roosevelt: The Lakers have won four consecutive games after defeating Judson 76-63 last Tuesday (Dec. 20) at home. Jayla Turchin leads Roosevelt averaging 16.2 points per game while also pulling down a team-high 7.6 rebounds per contest. Amelia McNutt has added 13.6 points per outing while Meghan Urbanski is scoring 13.2 points per night. Kencia Levasseur is the fourth Laker tallying double figures on the season, pouring in 10.4 points per game.
Facing the CCAC: Lourdes is 3-5 all-time against current members of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Gray Wolves have victories over Holy Cross (Ind.) (1-0), Indiana-Northwest (1-1), and Indiana-South Bend (1-3) while having also faced Saint Xavier (0-1). Lourdes last played a CCAC opponent last season, falling 94-70 to Indiana-South Bend on the road.
Pedroza Earns WHAC Honors: For the first time in her career,
Shae Pedroza was named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Player of the Week following the victory over Penn State-Shenango. The junior scored a season-high 21 points on 9-of-13 shooting, including 3-of-5 from long range. She also had three assists and two rebounds in 24 minutes of action.
Nearly Perfect Off the Bench: Both
Emma Pedroza and
Mercedes Wagner were nearly perfect shooting the basketball in a reserve role against Penn State-Shenango. Both were 6-of-7 from the floor with Pedroza tallying 13 points while Wagner adding 12 more as the Lourdes bench accounting for 40 points in the game.
Dialing Long Distance: Lourdes shot a season's best 42.9% from three-point range at Indiana-Southeast on Dec. 17, making 6-of-14 attempts. The Gray Wolves' nearly bettered that mark last Wednesday against Penn State-Shenango, connecting at a 42.3% clip, its second best mark of the year. Lourdes made 11-of-26 shots from beyond the arc.
Stifling Defense: Lourdes did not allow a field goal in the opening 10 minutes against Penn State-Shenango, yielding just one point while taking a 24-1 lead after one quarter. The Lady Lions first field goal came with 9:28 to play in the second period. The Gray Wolves held Penn State-Shenango to just 46 points in the contest, the second game this season a Lourdes opponent has been limited to less than 50 points.
Lourdes Debuts: Karsyn Edwards,
Kambry Edwards, and
Lika Mikiashvilli all made their first appearances in a Gray Wolf uniform against Penn State-Shenango, playing seven minutes each. For the Edwards sisters, it also marked their collegiate debuts while Mikiashvilli appeared in previous action for Oklahoma Christian.
Sisters Leading the Scoring Race: Shae Pedroza has taken over the team's scoring lead this season averaging 11.3 points per game. Her sister, freshman
Emma Pedroza, is second for Lourdes in scoring this season, averaging 10.8 points per game. They are the only two Gray Wolves averaging in double figures.
Making Shots: Shae Pedroza is connecting at a 92.7% clip from the free throw line on the season, the second best mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. She has missed just three attempts all year (38-of-41).
Block Party: Halle Barnett is tied for fourth in the WHAC this season with 14 total blocked shots in 15 games. She junior has recorded multiple blocks in a game on four different occasions already this year.
Mixing Up the Lineup: Lourdes has had 11 different players draw at least one starting assignment this season.

Lourdes Tabbed Seventh in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in seventh place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just behind Concordia (Mich.) and just ahead of Madonna in the balloting. Indiana Tech was tabbed as the preseason favorite.
