Highlighted by a top-five individual finish from
Isaac Simmons (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa H.S.), Lourdes finished runner-up at the Aquinas Invitational on Wednesday in a field of 12 schools at Kaufman Golf Course in Wyoming, Mich.
"The guys did a great job," head coach
Gil Guerrero said afterwards. "This was a course that they had never seen before, and I am very proud of how they handled it."
The Gray Wolves carded 305 as a team, two shots ahead of third place Cornerstone. Hope won the tournament with an even par round of 288.
Simmons finished the day with a three-over par round of 75 on the 6,796-yard, par-72 course to tie for fifth place individually.
Jack Murphy (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington H.S.) added a top-10 finish with his tie for 10
th place after firing a 76.
Justin Altenbach (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee H.S.) and
Ryan Klausing (Kalida, Ohio/Kalida H.S.) rounded out the scoring for the Gray Wolves after each posted a score of 77 while
Gaige Keane (Temperance, Mich./Bedford H.S.) shot 81 on the day.
Hope's Liam Casey was the medalist with a three-under par round of 69, two shots better than his teammate Jack Crawford who finished runner-up.
Lourdes will return to action on Sept. 26-27 as the Gray Wolves participate in the WHAC Preview. Action is set to begin at 8:30 a.m. at Bedford Valley Golf Club in Battle Creek, Mich.
