Lourdes University men's golf earned a tie for fifth place in a competitive 10-team field at the Cleary University Invitational on Friday, carding a team score of 317 at Chemung Hills Golf Club. The Gray Wolves matched Aquinas for the spot, showing strong depth in their second event of the season.
Senior
Justin Altenbach (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) led the way with a four-over-par 76, tying for fifth among 52 golfers.
Charlie Robertson (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) added a 78 to tie for 14th, while freshman
Edward Robertson (Maumee, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) followed closely with a 79 for a share of 22nd.
Grant Leis (Ottoville, Ohio/Ottoville) and
Jonathan Huston (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa Area) each shot 80 to tie for 24th, and freshman
Brock Fussell (Oregon, Ohio/Clay) contributed an 82, tying for 30th.
Freshman
Mazin Rukieh (Swanton, Ohio/Swanton) competed as an individual, finishing with an 80 to match Leis and Huston in 24th place.
Cleary's Axel Houdaille was the medalist after firing a 4-under-par 68, leading the Cougars' "A" squad to the team title at 299. Siena Heights finished four strokes back in second, while Indiana Tech placed third at 305.
Lourdes continues its fall slate at the WHAC Preview September 21–23 at Stoatin Brae Golf Club in Augusta, Mich., before heading to Bluffton for a two-day invitational October 4–5.
