Lourdes tied for third place on Monday morning in the stroke play portion of the WHAC Preview at Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek, Mich. before defeating the University of Northwestern Ohio 3-2 in the first round of match play to advance to Tuesday's title contest.

"It was a miserable day on the golf course with the rain off and on throughout," head coach
Gil Guerrero said afterwards. "I am so proud of the guys though. They played a heck of a great match in the afternoon."

In the stroke play qualifying, Lourdes posted 307 to finish in a tie with Madonna for third place, earning the third seed for the match play portion based upon fifth score. The Gray Wolves were just one shot behind second place Northwestern Ohio, with Lawrence Tech taking the top seed after shooting 290. Teams five through eight were also grouped together for match play as were finishers nine through 12.

Jack Murphy (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington H.S.) led the Gray Wolves in stroke play, carding a round of 75 to tie for sixth place individually.Â
Justin Altenbach (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee H.S.) and
Isaac Simmons (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa H.S.) followed with rounds of 77 on the 6,898-yard, par-72 course.Â
Ryan Klausing (Kalida, Ohio/Kalida H.S.) rounded out the scoring with a 78 while
Alban Bruyas (Grenoble, France/Lycee Philippine Duchesne) carding an 81 in the all-important fifth position.

Thomas Delmas of Lawrence Tech and Benjamin Ellis of Siena Heights were stroke play medalists with two-under par rounds of 70.

Against the Racers in match play, Simmons and Altenbach both won their matches 2&1 while Bruyas was a 3&2 victor in his contest. Murphy and Klausing each fell by 4&3 scores.

With the win, Lourdes will face Lawrence Tech on Tuesday morning in the title tilt. Action is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
