Lourdes Hosts Indiana Tech, Travels to Michigan-Dearborn This Week

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes concludes the first half of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play at home on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves entertain nationally-ranked Indiana Tech.  Lourdes will begin the second round of league action on Saturday afternoon, traveling to face Michigan-Dearborn.

Head Coach Tandy Bradford: In her second season on the Lourdes bench, Tandy Bradford sports a 16-31 (.340) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  In her fifth season overall as a collegiate head coach, Bradford has a 37-90 (.291) career mark.  She is the fifth head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Indiana Tech is 22-1 all-time against Lourdes in a series that began Jan. 7, 2012.  The Warriors have won the last 19 games between the two schools after sweeping last year's series.  Indiana Tech was an 81-48 victor in Fort Wayne, Ind. and a 63-48 winner in the Ebeid Rec Center.  The Warriors are 6-0 all-time inside the Ebeid Rec Center.  Michigan-Dearborn holds a 12-9 series advantage against the Gray Wolves dating back to Jan. 14, 2012.  Lourdes won this year's first meeting 91-86 on Nov. 12 inside the Ebeid Rec Center.  The Wolverines are 6-4 against Lourdes all-time at home, including a win last season in a game also played in Livonia, Mich.

Wrapping Up Last Week: The second quarter proved to be the difference on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 7) as Rochester (Mich.) defeated the Gray Wolves 70-61 inside the Ebeid Rec Center.  Emma Pedroza led Lourdes with 16 points while Halle Barnett added 13 points and eight rebounds in the loss.  Nadeen Jemaa and Shae Pedroza both finished in double figures as well, scoring 11 and 10 points respectively.

Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors have won three straight games after defeating Concordia (Mich.) 60-34 on Saturday (Jan. 7) afternoon.  Kyra Whitaker leads Indiana Tech averaging 18.8 points per game while Erika Foy adds 13.9 points and a team-leading 8.8 rebounds per contest.  Taylor Covington chips in 11.0 points per outing while Juliana Burris tallies 10.4 points per game.  

Scouting Michigan-Dearborn: The Wolverines are coming off a 55-54 victory over Northwestern Ohio on Saturday (Jan. 7).  Siena Smith is the only Wolverine scoring in double figures this season, tallying a team-high 11.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game for Michigan-Dearborn.  India Grissom adds 9.0 points per outing for the Wolverines.

Sister Act: Freshman Emma Pedroza continues to hold the team's scoring lead this season averaging 11.4 points per game.  Her sister, Shae Pedroza, is second for Lourdes in scoring this season, averaging 10.5 points per game.  They are the only two Gray Wolves averaging in double figures.  One of the two sisters has led Lourdes in scoring in 11 of the 17 games thus far.

Pedroza Takes over the WHAC Lead: Shae Pedroza is connecting at a 93.3% clip from the free throw line on the season, the best mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.  She has missed just three attempts all year (42-of-45).  Pedroza is tied for fourth among all NAIA players from the charity stripe this year.

Handling the Basketball: Both Nadeen Jemaa and Emma Pedroza have positive assist-to-turnover ratios on the floor this season.  Jemaa has handed out a team-leading 38 assists while committing 34 miscues.  Pedroza has 24 assists on the year while turning the ball over just 21 times.

A Deep Bench: Lourdes has 12 players that are averaging 10 or more minutes of action this season.  Shae Pedroza (32.0 minutes per game) is the only Gray Wolf averaging more than 25 minutes per contest on the year.  

Starting Strong: Lourdes has played well coming out of the locker room throughout the season.  The Gray Wolves are outscoring their opponents 293-272 in the first period and 310-274 in the third quarter following the halftime break.  Lourdes has been outscored in both the second and fourth periods this year though.

Block Party: Halle Barnett is tied for fourth in the WHAC this season with 16 total blocked shots in 17 games.  She junior has recorded multiple blocks in a game on five different occasions already this year.

Mixing Up the Lineup: Lourdes has had 11 different players draw at least one starting assignment this season.  Shae Pedroza and Nadeen Jemaa are the only two players  that have been on the floor for the tip in all 17 games.

Lourdes Tabbed Seventh in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in seventh place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  Lourdes was picked just behind Concordia (Mich.) and just ahead of Madonna in the balloting.  Indiana Tech was tabbed as the preseason favorite.

This and That: Shae Pedroza is the team's active scoring leader with 625 points over her three seasons ... Mercedes Wagner is the team's top active career rebounder with 291 boards, closing in on 300 ... Macie Stringfellow leads the Gray Wolves on the glass, pulling down 5.0 rebounds per game ... Halle Barnett is shooting 51.7% from the floor on the season.
