Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes returns home to the Ebeid Rec Center this week for a pair of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference games. The Gray Wolves will host Siena Heights on Wednesday evening before hosting Cornerstone for a Saturday afternoon affair.
Head Coach Tandy Bradford: In her second season on the Lourdes bench,
Tandy Bradford sports a 16-33 (.327) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her fifth season overall as a collegiate head coach, Bradford has a 37-92 (.287) career mark. She is the fifth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Siena Heights is 23-0 all-time against Lourdes in a series that began Dec. 3, 2011. The Saints won the first meeting this season against the Gray Wolves 81-75 in Adrian, Mich. on Nov. 16. Siena Heights is 6-0 against Lourdes inside the Ebeid Rec Center. Cornerstone holds a 17-5 series advantage against the Gray Wolves dating back to Dec. 10, 2011. The Golden Eagles have won the last four games in the series after posting a 91-70 victory over Lourdes in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Nov. 19. The Gray Wolves hold a 3-2 series advantage inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes wrapped up the first half of WHAC play on Wednesday evening (Jan. 11), falling 84-41 to 14th-ranked Indiana Tech at home.
Mercedes Wagner was the lone Gray Wolf to score in double figures, finishing with 10 points while
Shae Pedroza and
Emma Pedroza added nine each. On Saturday (Jan. 14), the Gray Wolves began the second half of the league slate dropping a 67-59 decision to Michigan-Dearborn away from home.
Emma Pedroza poured in 22 points while
Macie Stringfellow added 10 points and nine rebounds for Lourdes.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints are coming off a 68-44 victory at home against Aquinas on Saturday (Jan. 14). Sha'kyia Parker leads Siena Heights averaging 19.3 points per game while Peyton Banks has added 15.3 points and a team-leading 7.4 rebounds per outing. Kayla Hinton gives Siena Height three double figure scorers, tallying 12.8 points per night.
Scouting Cornerstone: The Golden Eagles enter the week having defeated Northwestern Ohio 82-71 on Saturday (Jan. 14). Cornerstone travels to Madonna on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes. Stephanie Ainsworth has led the Golden Eagles this season, scoring 12.2 points and grabbing 7.2 rebounds per game. Kennedy Helderop adds 11.1 points per night while Olivia Kubik and Mackenzie Stein chip in 10.4 and 10.3 points per contest respectively.
Pedroza Notches Career High: Emma Pedroza poured in a career-high 22 points on Saturday against Michigan-Dearborn, making 9-of-19 shots from the floor including three, three-point field goals. The freshman's previous career high came earlier this season at Siena Heights when she scored 19 points. Pedroza has tallied 12 double figure scoring games during her rookie season.
Pedroza Continues to Hold the WHAC Lead: Shae Pedroza is connecting at a 91.5% clip from the free throw line on the season, the best mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. She has missed just four attempts all year (43-of-47). Pedroza is ninth among all NAIA players from the charity stripe this year.
Sister Act: Freshman
Emma Pedroza continues to hold the team's scoring lead this season averaging 11.8 points per game. Her sister,
Shae Pedroza, is second for Lourdes in scoring this season, averaging 10.1 points per game. They are the only two Gray Wolves averaging in double figures. One of the two sisters has led Lourdes in scoring in 12 of the 19 games thus far.
Crashing the Glass: Macie Stringfellow has led Lourdes on the boards this season, pulling down 5.1 rebounds per game. The rookie has a team-high 28 offensive caroms among her 96 total boards this year. Stringfellow pulled down nine rebounds against Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday, one shy of her career-high of 10 set on Dec. 29 at Roosevelt.
A Deep Bench: Lourdes has 11 players that are averaging 10 or more minutes of action this season.
Shae Pedroza (32.7 minutes per game) is the only Gray Wolf averaging more than 26 minutes per contest on the year. Lourdes has had 11 different players draw at least one starting assignment this season. Pedroza and
Nadeen Jemaa are the only two players that have been on the floor for the tip in all 19 games.
Starting Strong: Lourdes has played well coming out of the locker room throughout the season. The Gray Wolves are outscoring their opponents 319-304 in the first period and 335-316 in the third quarter following the halftime break. Lourdes has been outscored in both the second and fourth periods this year though.
Lourdes Tabbed Seventh in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in seventh place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just behind Concordia (Mich.) and just ahead of Madonna in the balloting. Indiana Tech was tabbed as the preseason favorite.
