Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: With non-conference play in the rearview mirror, Lourdes sets its sights on Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play the remainder of the season. The Gray Wolves continue their three-game homestand on Saturday afternoon, entertaining Rochester (Mich.) inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Head Coach Dennis Hopson: In his fourth season on the Lourdes bench,
Dennis Hopson is 64-30 (.681) with the Gray Wolves and as a men's collegiate head coach. He is only the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Rochester (Mich.) leads the all-time series against Lourdes 8-4 dating back to Jan. 22, 2011 but the Gray Wolves have won the last three meetings between the two schools. Lourdes swept the season series last year, winning 65-64 in Rochester Hills, Mich. before posting a 79-59 triumph inside the Ebeid Rec Center. The Warriors hold a 3-2 series edge in games played inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes hung with NCAA Division I foe Toledo throughout last Thursday (Dec. 29) before falling to the Rockets 103-88. The game was an exhibition for the Gray Wolves and the stats do not count for the season.
Joey Holifield led Lourdes with 23 points while
Jackie Harris added 20 more in the game. On Tuesday (Jan. 3), Lourdes began the current three-game homestand with a convincing 114-75 victory over Windsor. Harris poured in 36 points while
Little Anderson added 17 more as six Gray Wolves finished the game with double figures.
Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors dropped a 70-57 decision on the road at Cornerstone on Wednesday evening. James Ballard leads Rochester in both scoring and rebounding on the season, tallying 13.9 points and 8.4 boards per contest. Anthony Cukaj adds 12.7 points per outing for the Warriors while Brandon Michrina chips in 12.0 points per night. Guner Walters is also scoring in double figures for Rochester, tallying 10.1 points per game.
Oh Canada!: Lourdes won both of its last two contests against Canadian schools, lighting up the scoreboard. The Gray Wolves tallied 113 points against Lambton and 114 versus Windsor in winning by 51 and 49 points respectively.
Snow Nears Rebounding Record: Clif Snow surpassed the 800-rebound mark for his career on with five boards at Cornerstone on Dec. 15. He is just the second Gray Wolf in program history to reach the 800-board plateau. Snow is just four rebounds shy of the program record of 825 boards set by Zach Steinmetz (2013-2016), entering play on Saturday against Rochester with 821 rebounds in his five seasons with the Gray Wolves.
Big Effort Puts Harris Among Scoring Leaders: Jackie Harris has been on a scoring tear in his last three games. The senior scored 26 points against Lambton, added 20 more in the exhibition game against Toledo, before pouring in 36 points against Windsor. This season Harris is averaging 16.1 points per contest, a mark that ranks him fourth in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
A Group of Thieves: Lourdes registered 20 steals among the 26 forced turnovers on Tuesday against Windsor, led by
Sterling Hopkins who had seven thefts himself. As a team, Lourdes leads the WHAC averaging 8.9 steals per contest this year.
From Downtown: Charles Swain and
Jackie Harris have led the Gray Wolves shooting efforts from long range this season. Swain is shooting 44.2% from three-point range on the year, a mark that ranks fourth in the WHAC. Harris is tied for the league lead, making 3.1 triples per contest. He has 49 total threes on the year, shooting at a 38.6% clip.
Filling the Stat Sheet: Little Anderson did a little of everything for the Gray Wolves on Tuesday in the win over Windsor. Not only did he score 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting, the senior guard added eight rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and a blocked shot in 37 minutes of action on the floor.
Making Free Throws: Lourdes has been successful from the charity stripe this year, shooting 73.5%. Individually,
Clif Snow is fifth in the WHAC connecting at a 81.8% clip while
Joey Holifield is shooting 79.0% from the line, seventh best in the conference.
A Pair of 1,000-Point Scorers: Earlier this season,
Little Anderson became just the third player in program history to reach 1,000 points for his career at Lourdes. The senior enters play with 1,034 career points, third most in program history.
Clif Snow was the second Gray Wolf in program history to reach the milestone, doing so during the 2020-2021 campaign and enters this weekend with a school-record 1,616 career points.
Lourdes Tabbed Third in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in third place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just ahead of Cornerstone and just behind Madonna in the league balloting. Indiana Tech is the favorite to win the WHAC in 2022-2023.
