Women's Hoops Hosts Rochester Saturday in First Appearance of 2023

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: After a nine-day layoff, Lourdes opens play in 2023 with the return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play for the remainder of the season.  The Gray Wolves will play four of its next five games at home beginning on Saturday as Lourdes entertains Rochester (Mich.) inside the Ebeid Rec Center.

Head Coach Tandy Bradford: In her second season on the Lourdes bench, Tandy Bradford sports a 16-30 (.348) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  In her fifth season overall as a collegiate head coach, Bradford has a 37-89 (.294) career mark.  She is the fifth head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Rochester (Mich.) leads the all-time series against Lourdes 11-2 dating back to Jan. 23, 2012.  The Warriors swept the season series in 2021-2022, downing the Gray Wolves 86-68 in Rochester Hills, Mich. and 77-69 inside the Ebeid Rec Center.  Rochester is 5-0 all-time against Lourdes inside the Ebeid Rec Center.

Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes built a five-point lead after the opening quarter at Roosevelt on Thursday (Dec. 29), but the Lakers used strong second and third periods to defeat the Gray Wolves 73-52 in Chicago, Ill.  Emma Pedroza led Lourdes with nine points in the setback while Zaria Bridgewater added eight more.

Scouting Rochester (Mich.): The Warriors snapped a four-game losing skid on Wednesday evening, defeating Cornerstone on the road, 117-107 in double-overtime.  Krystal Rice leads Rochester scoring 11.9 points per game this season while Jacara Thompson has added 10.6 points per night.  On the glass, Cianna Gloster has been the team's top rebounder, pulling down 5.6 boards per outing.  

Home Sweet Home: Beginning on Saturday, Lourdes plays seven of its final 12 games at home inside the Ebeid Rec Center, including four of its next five contests.  The Gray Wolves have had a great deal of success on their home floor this season, posting a 5-2 record.  Dating back to the end of January of last season, Lourdes has won seven of its last 11 games inside the Ebeid Rec Center.

Nearing the Midway Point of WHAC Play: With Lourdes already two games into the second half of its season overall, the Gray Wolves are nearing the midway point in WHAC play as well.  Lourdes will wrap up the first half of league action on Wednesday evening against Indiana Tech.

A Streak Ends: Without a Gray Wolf tallying double figures at Roosevelt, Lourdes saw its streak of 60 consecutive games with at least one scorer with 10 or more points come to an end.  The last time Lourdes failed to have a double figures scorer had been Jan. 16, 2021 against Northwestern Ohio.

Pulling Down the Boards: Macie Stringfellow became the first Lourdes player this season to grab double figure rebounds at Roosevelt.  The Gray Wolf rookie pulled down a career-high 10 boards.  Mercedes Wagner and Logan Ingram were the last Lourdes players to have double figure rebounding totals, with each grabbing 11 in the season finale last year at Cornerstone.

Closing Out 2022: Lourdes finished the 2022 calendar year with an 11-20 record.  The Gray Wolves were 5-10 last season and 6-10 to start this campaign.  Lourdes went 7-9 inside the Ebeid Rec Center during 2022.

Success from the Free Throw Line: Lourdes shot a season's best 91.7% (11-of-12) from the free throw line its last time out at Roosevelt, improving the team's mark on the year to 73.8%, the second best mark in the WHAC.  The previous best in a game this year was 88.9% (16-of-18) at Kentucky Christian on Dec. 12. 

For Success at the Charity Stripe: Shae Pedroza is connecting at a 92.7% clip from the free throw line on the season, the second best mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.  She has missed just three attempts all year (38-of-41).  

Sisters Leading the Scoring Race: Freshman Emma Pedroza continues to hold the team's scoring lead this season averaging 11.1 points per game.  Her sister, Shae Pedroza, is second for Lourdes in scoring this season, averaging 10.5 points per game.  They are the only two Gray Wolves averaging in double figures.  

Block Party: Halle Barnett ranks fifth in the WHAC this season with 14 total blocked shots in 16 games.  She junior has recorded multiple blocks in a game on four different occasions already this year.

Mixing Up the Lineup: Lourdes has had 11 different players draw at least one starting assignment this season.  Shae Pedroza and Nadeen Jemaa are the only two players  that have been on the floor for the tip in all 16 games.

Lourdes Tabbed Seventh in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in seventh place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  Lourdes was picked just behind Concordia (Mich.) and just ahead of Madonna in the balloting.  Indiana Tech was tabbed as the preseason favorite.

This and That: Shae Pedroza is the team's active scoring leader with 615 points over her three seasons ... Mercedes Wagner is the team's top active career rebounder with 289 boards, closing in on 300 ... Lika Mikiashvilli scored her first collegiate points at Roosevelt.
