Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: The first half of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play concludes on Wednesday evening as the Gray Wolves host nationally-ranked Indiana Tech. Lourdes opens up the league's second half on Saturday, hitting the road to face Michigan-Dearborn in a game played at Madonna University.
Head Coach Dennis Hopson: In his fourth season on the Lourdes bench,
Dennis Hopson is 65-30 (.684) with the Gray Wolves and as a men's collegiate head coach. He is only the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Indiana Tech holds a 15-11 series advantage all-time against Lourdes dating back to Oct. 30, 2010. The Gray Wolves won two of three against the Warriors last season. In the regular season, Lourdes was a 74-65 winner on the road while Indiana Tech scored an 80-69 victory in the Ebeid Rec Center. The Gray Wolves then won in Fort Wayne, Ind. 89-79 in the WHAC semifinals. Indiana Tech holds a 4-2 series edge inside the Ebeid Rec Center. Lourdes holds a 14-7 series edge against Michigan-Dearborn in a series that began Jan. 14, 2012. The Gray Wolves have won the last three meetings between the two schools after posting a 95-55 triumph on Nov. 12 in the first meeting this season in the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: On Tuesday (Jan. 3), Lourdes began the current three-game homestand with a convincing 114-75 victory over Windsor.
Jackie Harris poured in 36 points while
Little Anderson added 17 more as six Gray Wolves finished the game with double figures. The Gray Wolves built a 22-point first half lead on Saturday (Jan. 7) against Rochester (Mich.) before pulling out a 69-66 win at home.
Joey Holifield had 17 points while
Little Anderson and
Jackie Harris both had double-doubles.
Scouting Indiana Tech: The Warriors have won five straight games after defeating Concordia (Mich.) 77-71 on Saturday at home. Josh Kline leads Indiana Tech averaging 12.9 points per game while Rog Stein adds 12.6 points and a team-high 6.6 rebounds per night. Grant Smith is tallying 11.5 points per outing while Blake Davison adds 11.3 points per game.
Scouting Michigan-Dearborn: The Wolverines have won three of their last four games after defeating Northwestern Ohio 87-77 on Saturday afternoon. Elwood Tomlinson paces Michigan-Dearborn's offense, averaging 15.3 points per game while Maurice Anderson adds 11.1 points per night. On the glass, Jimmy Breaux is pulling down a team-high 6.6 rebounds per contest.
Harris Earns WHAC Honors: For the second time this season,
Jackie Harris has been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Player of the Week. The senior averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds for the Gray Wolves in two victories, including a career-high 36 points against Windsor. Harris shot 50% from the floor and was 10-of-24 (41.7%) from three-point range in two games.
Snow Sets Rebounding Record: Clif Snow became Lourdes University's all-time leading rebounder with five boards against Rochester (Mich.) on Jan. 7. Earlier this year he became just the second Gray Wolf in program history to reach the 800-board plateau and broke the program record of 825 boards set by Zach Steinmetz (2013-2016). Snow enters the week with 826 rebounds in his five seasons with the Gray Wolves.
Double the Trouble: Jackie Harris and
Little Anderson both registered double-doubles in the Gray Wolves' victory over Rochester (Mich.) on Saturday. Harris scored 14 points and had 14 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the year. Anderson recorded the first of his collegiate career, scoring 16 points while pulling down a career-high 10 boards.
Among the League Leaders: Jackie Harris has moved into the top-five in the WHAC in both scoring and rebounding this season. Harris is tied for fifth averaging 16.0 points per game while ranking fifth individually on the glass, pulling down 7.3 boards per contest.
From Downtown: Charles Swain and
Jackie Harris have led the Gray Wolves shooting efforts from long range this season. Swain is shooting 44.4% from three-point range on the year, a mark that ranks sixth in the WHAC. Harris leads the league, making 3.0 triples per contest. He has 51 total threes on the year, shooting at a 38.1% clip.
A Pair of 1,000-Point Scorers: Earlier this season,
Little Anderson became just the third player in program history to reach 1,000 points for his career at Lourdes. The senior enters play this week with 1,050 career points, third most in program history.
Clif Snow was the second Gray Wolf in program history to reach the milestone, doing so during the 2020-2021 campaign and enters this weekend with a school-record 1,622 career points.
Lourdes Tabbed Third in Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in third place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just ahead of Cornerstone and just behind Madonna in the league balloting. Indiana Tech is the favorite to win the WHAC in 2022-2023.
