Gray Wolves Tip Off Season Saturday Hosting Adrian for Homecoming

Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: The 13th season of women's basketball tips off for Lourdes University on Saturday afternoon as the Gray Wolves host Adrian.  The season opener is part of Homecoming weekend on the Lourdes campus.

Head Coach Tandy Bradford: In her third season on the Lourdes bench, Tandy Bradford sports a 19-40 (.322) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves.  In her fifth season overall as a collegiate head coach, Bradford has a 40-99 (.288) career mark.  She is the fifth head coach in Lourdes program's history.

Series Notes: Lourdes won the only previous meeting against Adrian as the Bulldogs also visited the Ebeid Rec Center last season.  The Gray Wolves were 67-42 victors on Nov. 5, 2022 in a game that was also part of Homecoming weekend for Lourdes.

Wrapping Up Last Season: The Gray Wolves finished the 2022-2023 season 9-20 overall and 5-15 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.  Lourdes finished in a tie for eighth place in the WHAC standing.  The Gray Wolves fell in the quarterfinal round of the WHAC tournament 82-52 on the road at top-seeded, and 16th-ranked, Indiana Tech.

Scouting Adrian: The Bulldogs went 10-16 overall and 6-10 in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association during the 2022-2023 season.  Adrian is playing the game against the Gray Wolves as an exhibition contest.  The Bulldogs return 13 players from last year's squad, led by Julia Tierman, who averaged 8.3 points per game.  Jordan Phillips added 8.1 points per contest while Ashlyn Weatherly is the team's top returning rebounder, grabbing 6.3 boards per night last year.

Returning Award Winners: Emma Pedroza and Shae Pedroza both earned Second Team All-WHAC accolades last season for the Gray Wolves.  Emma led the Gray Wolves averaging 12.9 points per game while grabbing 4.7 rebounds per night.  Shae tallied 11.8 points per contest and had a team-high 40 steals while shooting 89.0% from the free throw line.

Lourdes in Season Openers: The Gray Wolves are 7-5 all-time in season openers after defeating Mount Vernon Nazarene 72-65 to open the 2022-2023 season.  Lourdes is 6-3 in season openers at home, including last year's triumph against the Cougars.

Home Sweet Home: Lourdes is 9-3 all-time in its home openers and has won its first home game of the season in six consecutive years.  The Gray Wolves downed Mount Vernon Nazarene 72-65 to begin last year's home campaign.  All-time, Lourdes enters this season with a 36-59 record inside the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center after posting a 6-7 record on its home floor in 2022-2023.

Lots of Returnees: Lourdes returns 18 players from last season's roster, giving the Gray Wolves a wealth of experience heading into the new campaign.  The only player that did played last year but is not a part of the 2023-2024 squad is Addie Conroy, who competed first semester before graduating in December.

Sister Act: For the second straight season, Lourdes has a pair of sister combinations on the roster this year.  Sophomore Emma Pedroza joins her sister Shae Pedroza, who is a senior this year.  In addition, a pair of twins will be playing alongside one another again in Kambry Edwards and Karsyn Edwards.

Just One Freshman Among This Year's New Faces: The Gray Wolves have four newcomers on the roster this season, but only one who is a true freshman.  Ashley Zawisza is a local product from Saint Ursula Academy in Toledo.  The other three newcomers are all transfers.  Nakiya Sigman arrives at Lourdes from Jackson College while Ray Armstrong played at Macomb Community College last season.  Taylor Thomas is a transfer from NCAA Division II Lake Erie.

Looking for Win Number 100: The next victory for the Gray Wolves will be the 100th in program history.  Lourdes began playing women's basketball in the 2011-2012 season and enters the year 99-245 all-time.

Lourdes Tabbed Sixth in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in sixth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches.  Lourdes was picked just behind Rochester (Mich.) and just ahead of Lawrence Tech in the balloting.  Indiana Tech was tabbed as the unanimous preseason favorite.

This and That: The Gray Wolves are 4-3 all-time in overtime contests but have not played one since Feb. 27, 2021, a 91-84 setback at Concordia (Mich.) in the WHAC tournament semifinals ... Shae Pedroza is the Gray Wolves' leading active scorer, entering the season with 790 career points ... Mercedes Wagner begins the season with 350 career rebounds at Lourdes.
