Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: After a season-opening victory, Lourdes takes to the road for the first time this year on Friday night. The Gray Wolves are traveling to Mount Vernon Nazarene in the team's final tune-up prior to the start of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play.
Head Coach Tandy Bradford: In her third season on the Lourdes bench,
Tandy Bradford sports a 20-40 (.333) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her fifth season overall as a collegiate head coach, Bradford has a 41-99 (.293) career mark. She is the fifth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes and Mount Vernon Nazarene have split four previous meetings 2-2 in a series that began Nov. 8, 2014. The Gray Wolves have won their last two contests against the Cougars after defeating Mount Vernon Nazarene at home 72-65 on Oct. 28, 2022 to open last season. The series is tied 1-1 in Mount Vernon, Ohio.
Wrapping Up Last Week: The Gray Wolves opened their season in triumphant fashion on Saturday, defeating Adrian 67-50 as part of Homecoming weekend inside the Ebeid Rec Center. Lourdes built a 37-17 lead at halftime and never looked back.
Shae Pedroza led the Gray Wolves with 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting and had four steals while
Maddie Norton was a perfect 4-for-4 off the bench to add eight points.
Scouting Mount Vernon Nazarene: The Cougars have won their first three games after downing Heidelberg 62-50 at home on Friday evening. Peyton Davis is averaging a team-leading 14.7 points per game this season while Angela Roshak has tallied 13.3 points and pulled down 10.0 rebounds per contest. Madelyn Lawson is also scoring in double figures for Mount Vernon Nazarene, averaging 10.0 points per game.
Facing the Crossroads League: Lourdes is 6-13 all-time against current members of the Crossroads League on the hardwood. The Gray Wolves have gone 3-1 against Goshen, the best mark against any league school. In addition to the two wins against Mount Vernon Nazarene, Lourdes is also 1-5 against Spring Arbor. The Gray Wolves have also faced Taylor (0-3), Marian (0-1), and Saint Francis (Ind.) (0-1).
Success in Season Openers: The Gray Wolves improved to 8-5 all-time in season openers after the victory over Adrian. Lourdes has now won back-to-back season openers after downing Mount Vernon Nazarene to open the 2022-2023 season. Lourdes also improved to 7-3 when playing season openers at home and
10-3 all-time in home openers.
Pedroza Surpasses 800 Career Points: Shae Pedroza led Lourdes with 13 points in the season opener against Adrian, and moved past the 800-point mark for her career. The senior enters the week with 803 points over the last four years in a Gray Wolf uniform.
Forcing Turnovers: Lourdes forced Adrian into 28 turnovers in the season opener, 17 of which came via steals. The Gray Wolves turned the miscues into 21 points.
Shae Pedroza and
Emma Pedroza each had four thefts while
Halle Barnett added three more steals.
Bench Production: Lourdes tallied nearly half of its points from players coming off the bench on Saturday in the win over Adrian. The reserves accounted for 33 of the team's 67 points, led by
Maddie Norton who scored eight points and
Nadeen Jemaa who added seven more.
Reaching 100: The victory over Adrian was the Gray Wolves 100th in the women's basketball program's history. Lourdes began playing women's basketball in the 2011-2012 season and is now 100-245 all-time.
Gray Wolf Debuts: Lourdes had four Gray Wolves make their Gray Wolf debuts on Saturday in the win over Adrian.
Nakiya Sigman and
Taylor Thomas both drew starting assignments with Sigman scoring five points in 25 minutes of action and Thomas playing 15 minutes and scoring five points as well.
Ray Armstrong saw eight minutes of action of the bench, grabbing three rebounds and scoring two points while
Ashley Zawisza made her collegiate debut, playing four minutes.
Block Party: Lourdes registered five blocked shots in the season opener against Adrian.
Macie Stringfellow had two rejections while
Shae Pedroza,
Halle Barnett, and
Nadeen Jemaa each added a block.
Lourdes Tabbed Sixth in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in sixth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just behind Rochester (Mich.) and just ahead of Lawrence Tech in the balloting. Indiana Tech was tabbed as the unanimous preseason favorite.
This and That: The Gray Wolves are 4-3 all-time in overtime contests but have not played one since Feb. 27, 2021, a 91-84 setback at Concordia (Mich.) in the WHAC tournament semifinals ... Lourdes yielded just four second quarter points against Adrian ... no Gray Wolves played more than 25 minutes in the season opener.
