Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes wraps up its four-game road trip on Thursday evening, stepping out of league play to visit Spring Arbor. The Gray Wolves then return home on Saturday night for their final Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference game before the holidays, entertaining Concordia (Mich.) inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Head Coach Tandy Bradford: In her third season on the Lourdes bench,
Tandy Bradford sports a 22-45 (.328) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her fifth season overall as a collegiate head coach, Bradford has a 43-104 (.293) career mark. She is the fifth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Spring Arbor holds a 5-1 series advantage against Lourdes dating back to Nov. 8, 2011. The Cougars won last year's meeting between the two schools 78-54 inside the Ebeid Rec Center. Lourdes lone win in the series came at home, 70-60, during the 2021-2022 campaign. The Cougars are 3-0 against the Gray Wolves all-time in Spring Arbor, Mich. Concordia (Mich.) is 23-2 all-time against Lourdes in a series that dates back to Oct. 27, 2011, the first game in the Gray Wolf program's history. The Cardinals have won 10 consecutive meetings between the two schools after sweeping last year's contests. Concordia was a 64-50 victory in Ann Arbor, Mich. and a 63-54 winner inside the Ebeid Rec Center. The Cardinals are 7-0 against Lourdes all-time inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes jumped out to a 15-point halftime lead on Saturday (Dec. 9) but Aquinas battled back and made three free throws in the final 11 seconds to rally and defeat the Gray Wolves 74-72 in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Nadeen Jemaa and
Macie Stringfellow both registered double-doubles for the Gray Wolves. Jemaa had 20 points and 11 rebounds while Stringfellow added 11 points and 10 boards.
Nakiya Sigman and
Halle Barnett both finished the game in double figures as well for Lourdes, as each scored 14 points.
Scouting Spring Arbor: The Cougars have won two consecutive games after defeating Cleary 68-36 at home on Dec. 6. Alana Nelson leads Spring Arbor averaging 17.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game this season. Alize Tripp adds 17.3 points per outing while Alex Long chips in 13.1 points per night for the Cougars. Spring Arbor is averaging 85.4 points per game this season while limiting opponents to just 57.0 points per contest.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals have won six straight games after downing Lawrence Tech 59-51 at home on Saturday (Dec. 9). Taylor Leatherman leads Concordia in both scoring and rebounding, tallying 17.3 points and grabbing 8.5 rebounds per game. Abby Long has added 15.9 points per night for the Cardinals.
Jemaa Has Career Day: Nadeen Jemaa tallied career highs in both scoring and rebounding on her way to her first collegiate double-double on Saturday. Jemaa scored 20 points, one more than her previous best of 19 last season at Aquinas, while grabbing 11 rebounds, three more than her previous high last season.
Double-Doubles Becoming Regular for Stringfellow: Macie Stringfellow recorded her third double-double of the season on Saturday at Aquinas, scoring 11 points while grabbing 10 rebounds, including five on the offensive end of the floor. Stringfellow also had a double-double at Cornerstone (Nov. 29)when she scored a team-high 14 points while also pulling down 10 rebounds and recorded a 12-point-12-rebound contest eat Mount Vernon Nazarene (Nov. 10).
A Balanced Offensive Attack: Lourdes has six players averaging between 8.5 and 10.4 points per game this season.
Emma Pedroza has led the way for the Gray Wolves tallying 10.3 points per night both
Nakiya Sigman (10.1 ppg) and
Macie Stringfellow (10.0 ppg) are both scoring in double figures as well.
Shae Pedroza has added 9.3 points per night while
Nadeen Jemaa and
Halle Barnett check in at 8.8 and 8.5 points per game respectively.
Getting to the Offensive Glass: Lourdes is averaging 13.0 offensive rebounds per game this season, nearly four more than their opponents. Over the last two games, facing Northwestern Ohio and Aquinas, the Gray Wolves have held a 27-11 edge in second chance points because of getting to the offensive glass.
Nearing 900: Shae Pedroza leads all Gray Wolf players with 855 points over the last four years in a Gray Wolf uniform. Pedroza has averaged 10.4 points per game for the Gray Wolves over the course of her career.
Making Shots: Halle Barnett went 6-for-8 from the floor on Saturday at Aquinas on her way to 14 points. For the season, Barnett is shooting 61.4% from the field. She has made 27 of her 44 shot attempts this year.
Lourdes Tabbed Sixth in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in sixth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just behind Rochester (Mich.) and just ahead of Lawrence Tech in the balloting. Indiana Tech was tabbed as the unanimous preseason favorite.
