Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes begins defense of its Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament title this week, hosting a postseason game for the fourth time in program history. The second-seeded Gray Wolves entertain seventh-seeded Concordia (Mich.) on Thursday evening in the quarterfinal round.
Head Coach Dennis Hopson: In his fourth season on the Lourdes bench,
Dennis Hopson is 74-32 (.698) with the Gray Wolves and as a men's collegiate head coach. He is only the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes leads the all-time series against Concordia (Mich.) 17-10 dating back to Nov. 2, 2010. The Gray Wolves have won eight of the last nine meetings between the two schools after splitting the regular season contests. The Cardinals won a 60-41 decision on Nov. 9 in Ann Arbor, Mich. before the Gray Wolves scored an 84-59 win in the Ebeid Rec Center on Feb. 1. Lourdes is 6-1 all-time against Concordia inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
This Season's Previous Meetings: Lourdes shot just 24.1% from the floor on Nov. 9 as Concordia (Mich.) defeated the Gray Wolves 60-41 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Jackie Harris was the lone Gray Wolf to tally double figures, scoring 15 points in the loss. Matt Lockhart and Zackary Johnson scored 12 points each to lead Concordia while Zac Clark and Jayden Priddy added 11 each in the win. On Feb. 1, Lourdes shot 58.1% from the floor in the opening half while building a 13-point lead at the break on the way to an 84-59 triumph in the Ebeid Rec Center. Harris and
Little Anderson scored 15 points each for the Gray Wolves while
Joey Holifield added 14 and
Stephen Coleman Jr. chipped in 13 more. Johnson and Jason Jergens led Concordia with 10 points each.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes shot 54.5% from the floor on Wednesday (Feb. 15) as the Gray Wolves notched an 81-76 victory over Lawrence Tech in Southfield, Mich.
Joey Holifield scored 28 points and
Little Anderson added 24 more in the victory.
Jackie Harris tallied 16 points while
Clif Snow pulled down 14 rebounds. On Saturday (Feb. 18), sixth-ranked Indiana Tech closed the regular season with a 90-79 victory over the Gray Wolves in Fort Wayne, Ind. Anderson had a game-high 22 points while Harris added 19 more. Holifield scored 15 points and
Stephen Coleman Jr. came off the bench tally 10 for the Gray Wolves.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals enter the tournament having lost three straight games after falling 69-64 at home against Siena Heights on Saturday. Kip French leads Concordia offensively averaging 12.1 points per game. Matt Lockhart adds 10.6 points and a team-leading 6.5 rebounds per contest for the Cardinals.
Lourdes in the WHAC Tournament: After capturing the WHAC title in 2002, Lourdes improved to 6-7 all-time in WHAC tournament play. The Gray Wolves are making their ninth overall appearance in the postseason event. Last year as the fourth-seed, Lourdes defeated Rochester (Mich.) at home 79-59 in the quarterfinals before downing top-seeded Indiana Tech on the road 89-79. In the title tilt, the Gray Wolves defeated Madonna 79-61 on the road to capture the title. Lourdes is 2-1 all-time in tournament games at home, including a 1-1 mark inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Best Finish Ever: Lourdes posted its best regular season finish in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference this season, finishing in second place. The Gray Wolves previous best finish was third in 2012-2013. Lourdes also tied for third place in both 2019-2020 and 2021-2022.
Reaching 20 Wins Again: The Gray Wolves have reached the 20-win plateau for the second consecutive season and third time in the last four years. Lourdes has now recorded four 20-win seasons in program history. The 21 wins the team currently has is third most ever by a Lourdes squad. The next victory will tie the 2012-2013 squad for the second most wins ever. The school record of 24 victories was set last year when the Gray Wolves finished the season 24-8.
Anderson Earns Player of the Week Honor: Little Anderson was the final WHAC Player of the Week for the season. He averaged 23.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and shot 64.3% from the floor in the games at Lawrence Tech and Indiana Tech.
Among the League Leaders: Jackie Harris and
Joey Holifield are both tied for fourth in the WHAC in scoring this season. Each is averaging 17.0 points per game while scoring exactly 475 points on the year.
From Downtown: Jackie Harris leads the WHAC with 85 three-point field goals this season, averaging 3.0 per game. He has 127 total triples over his two years with the Gray Wolves, shooting at a 40.7% career clip from beyond the arc.
A Pair of 1,000-Point Scorers: Earlier this season,
Little Anderson became just the third player in program history to reach 1,000 points for his career at Lourdes. The senior enters play this week with 1,237 career points, third most in program history.
Clif Snow was the second Gray Wolf in program history to reach the milestone, doing so during the 2020-2021 campaign and enters the tournament with a school-record 1,767 career points.
Snow Sets Rebounding Record: Clif Snow is Lourdes University's all-time leading rebounder and the only Gray Wolf in program history to reach the 900-board plateau. Snow enters the tournament with 917 rebounds in his five seasons with the Gray Wolves.
This and That: Joey Holifield,
Jackie Harris, and
Little Anderson have started all 28 games this season ... Lourdes has not gone to overtime since Feb. 5, 2020 against Michigan-Dearborn ... the Gray Wolves are 12-3 at home this season and 63-30 all-time inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
