Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: For the second consecutive season, and fourth time in program history, Lourdes is heading to the NAIA National Championships. The Gray Wolves, the 14th seed in the Duar Quadrant, head to third-seeded, and eighth-ranked Georgetown (Ky.) for a first round game on Tuesday evening.
Head Coach Dennis Hopson: In his fourth season on the Lourdes bench,
Dennis Hopson is 75-33 (.694) with the Gray Wolves and as a men's collegiate head coach. He is only the third head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Lourdes will be facing Georgetown (Ky.) for the first time in program history. The Gray Wolves have never faced MidAmerica Nazarene. Indiana Wesleyan won the only previous meeting against Lourdes 62-60 in overtime in Point Lookout, Mo. in the first round of the NAIA National Championships on March 7, 2013.
Wrapping Up the WHAC Tournament: Lourdes made 20 three-point field goals and shot 57.7% from the floor including 57.1% from long range as the Gray Wolves defeated Concordia (Mich.) 107-66 in the quarterfinals.
Jackie Harris had 33 points, including nine triples, while
Joey Holifield added 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting to go along with seven board and seven assists. In the semifinals, Madonna rallied from a two-point halftime deficit to defeat the Gray Wolves 88-78.
Little Anderson had a team-high 23 points while Holifield added 17 more. Lourdes shot 45.3% from the field but just 26.7% from beyond the arc.
Scouting Georgetown (Ky.): The Tigers won the Mid-South Conference regular season title before falling 69-68 to Freed-Hardeman in the tournament championship game. Jake Ohmer leads Georgetown averaging 16.4 points per game while Cam Brooks-Harris adds 11.8 points per night. Tae Dozier chips in 10.2 points per contest while Kyran Jones averages a double-double with 10.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game.
Scouting Indiana Wesleyan: The Wildcats tied for second in the Crossroads League before falling in the tournament quarterfinals 78-74 in overtime to Taylor. Seth Maxwell leads Indiana Wesleyan averaging 15.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Giffin Kliewer adds 13.6 points per contest while Spencer Piercefield and Javean Buchanan are averaging 12.7 and 12.2 respectively.
Scouting MidAmerica Nazarene: The Pioneers finished fifth in the Heart of America Conference and fell 94-88 to Baker in the tournament quarterfinals. Ed Wright leads Indiana Wesleyan averaging 18.6 points per game while Anthony Brown adds 17.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per night. Caleb Jones-McCrary and Mekhi Elmore score 14.8 and 10.8 points per night respectively.
Lourdes in the NAIA National Tournament: Lourdes is 0-3 all-time in NAIA postseason action. The Gray Wolves last played in the NAIA National Championships on March 11, 2021, falling 90-88 at Olivet Nazarene. The Gray Wolves lost 62-60 in overtime to Indiana Wesleyan in 2013 in the first round. Lourdes also dropped a 58-49 decision to Oregon Tech in round one at the end of the 2011-2012 season.
All-WHAC Honors: Joey Holifield became a two-time First Team All-WHAC selection this season while
Jackie Harris garnered First Team All-WHAC accolades for the first time in his career.
Little Anderson is now a three-time Second Team All-WHAC recipient and was also named to the WHAC All-Defensive Team.
Stephen Coleman Jr. represented the Gray Wolves on the All-Freshman Team.
Holifield Gives Lourdes Three Active 1,000-Point Scorers: Joey Holifield surpassed the 1,000-point mark in his two-year career at Lourdes with his 17-point effort against Madonna in the WHAC semifinals. He enters the NAIA National Championships with 1,014 career points.
Little Anderson reached 1,000 points for his career at Lourdes earlier this year and enters the national tournament with 1,271 career points, third most in program history.
Clif Snow enters the national event with a school-record 1,787 career points.
Best Finish Ever: Lourdes posted its best regular season finish in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference this season, finishing in second place. The Gray Wolves previous best finish was third in 2012-2013. Lourdes also tied for third place in both 2019-2020 and 2021-2022.
One from Tying the School Record: The Gray Wolves have reached the 20-win plateau for the second consecutive season and third time in the last four years. Lourdes has now recorded four 20-win seasons in program history. The 23 wins the team currently has is second most ever by a Lourdes squad, one shy of the school mark. The school record of 24 victories was set last year when the Gray Wolves finished the season 24-8.
Snow Sets Rebounding Record: Clif Snow is Lourdes University's all-time leading rebounder and the only Gray Wolf in program history to reach the 900-board plateau. Snow enters the national tournament with 924 rebounds in his five seasons with the Gray Wolves.
This and That: Jackie Harris ranks eighth in NAIA making 3.2 three-pointers per game while shooting at a 40.9% clip ... Harris and
Joey Holifield rank second and fifth respectively in the WHAC in scoring at 17.3 and 17.0 points per game ... Lourdes is 14-54 all-time against nationally-ranked foes but 1-1 this season.
