Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: After playing five of its last six games at home, Lourdes takes to the road on Wednesday night for a trip to Siena Heights. The Gray Wolves return home on Saturday afternoon to celebrate Senior Day inside the Ebeid Rec Center as Lourdes hosts Aquinas.
Head Coach Tandy Bradford: In her third season on the Lourdes bench,
Tandy Bradford sports a 25-51 (.329) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her fifth season overall as a collegiate head coach, Bradford has a 46-110 (.295) career mark. She is the fifth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Siena Heights has won all 25 previous games against Lourdes dating back to Dec. 3, 2011. The Saints won the first meeting between the two schools this season 71-55 on Nov. 15 inside the Ebeid Rec Center in the WHAC opener for the Gray Wolves. Siena Heights is 12-0 against Lourdes in Adrian, Mich. Aquinas holds a 21-3 edge against the Gray Wolves in a series that began Nov. 30, 2011. The Saints won the season's first meeting in Grand Rapids, Mich. 74-72. Aquinas is 4-2 against the Gray Wolves all-time inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes played nearly even with 23rd-ranked Indiana Tech after the opening period on Wednesday (Jan. 17), falling to the Warriors 72-60 at home.
Macie Stringfellow led the Gray Wolves with 17 points while
Shae Pedroza added 15. On Saturday (Jan. 20), Lourdes led nearly the entire way and posted a 72-47 home victory over Michigan-Dearborn. Stringfellow had a team-high 14 points while
Emma Pedroza added 13 more.
Scouting Siena Heights: The Saints have won 16 straight games following a 67-46 win at Aquinas on Saturday afternoon. Kayla Hinton leads Siena Heights in scoring, averaging 13.1 points per contest. Olivia DeLong is the team's top rebounder, grabbing 6.9 boards per contest. As a team, the Saints are holding opponents to just 46.7 points per night.
Scouting Aquinas: The Saints enter the week following a 67-46 setback at home against Siena Heights last Saturday (Jan. 20). Aquinas hosts Rochester (Mich.) on Wednesday before visiting Lourdes. Alona Blackwell leads the Saints in scoring, averaging 25.5 points per game. Ciara Hardy adds 14.0 points per outing while Claire Gregwer chips in 12.7 points per night. Gregwer also leads Aquinas on the glass, pulling down 10.6 rebounds per outing.
Nearing 1,000: Shae Pedroza enters the week with 973 career points, just 27 shy of becoming just the third Gray Wolf in program history to reach 1,000 wearing the terra cotta and black. Pedroza has averaged 10.7 points per game for the Gray Wolves over the course of her four years at Lourdes. Lauren Tilden (2011-2015) is the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,302 career points while Jesse Fidler (2014-2017) tallied 1,001 points.
Worthy Back in the Mix: After missing the first 14 games of the season,
Tamyah Worthy has returned to action for the Gray Wolves. Over the past three contests, she has averaged 11.7 minutes per game and is shooting 66.7% (6-of-9) from the floor. Worthy is averaging 4.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
From Long Range: Lourdes is shooting just 29.6% from three-point ranges this season but caught fire in the win over Michigan-Dearborn. The Gray Wolves connected at a 46.7% clip from beyond the arc, making 7-of-15 attempts. Five different players connected from long range in the win.
Getting Defensive: Lourdes defense stepped up in the victory over Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday. The Gray Wolves forced 20 Wolverine turnovers and held Michigan-Dearborn to just 27.1% shooting from the floor, including a 10% (2-of-20) clip from beyond the arc.
A Bunched Standings: Having just reached the midway point in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play, there is a log jam from fifth to 10th place in the standings. While Lourdes is tied for ninth currently with a 4-8 record, the Gray Wolves are one game out of sixth (5-7) and one-and-a-half games behind fifth place Lawrence Tech (6-7).
Sisters Pacing the Offense: Shae Pedroza and
Emma Pedroza have paced the Gray Wolf offense this season averaging 11.4 points per game each this year. Shae has scored in double figures nine times this year, including a pair of 20-point performances while Emma has scored 10 or more points in 12 of the 17 games.
From the Charity Stripe: Shae Pedroza has missed just one free throw this entire season (29-of-30) and is shooting at a 96.7% clip on the year. She is four makes shy of qualifying for the NAIA leaderboard (2.0 makes per game required).
Lourdes Tabbed Sixth in WHAC Preseason Poll: The Gray Wolves were selected to finish in sixth place in the WHAC this season in the preseason poll conducted of the league's head coaches. Lourdes was picked just behind Rochester (Mich.) and just ahead of Lawrence Tech in the balloting. Indiana Tech was tabbed as the unanimous preseason favorite.
This and That: Ray Armstrong scored a season-high seven points on 3-of-3 shooting in the win over Michigan-Dearborn ... Lourdes is outscoring teams 299-243 in the second quarter ...
