Upcoming in Gray Wolves Basketball: Lourdes heads into the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament having won five of its last six games. The sixth-seeded Gray Wolves head north to Ann Arbor, Mich. on Wednesday evening to face third-seeded Concordia (Mich.) in the quarterfinal round of the postseason event.
Head Coach Tandy Bradford: In her third season on the Lourdes bench,
Tandy Bradford sports a 31-55 (.360) record at the helm of the Gray Wolves. In her fifth season overall as a collegiate head coach, Bradford has a 52-114 (.313) career mark. She is the fifth head coach in Lourdes program's history.
Series Notes: Concordia (Mich.) is 25-2 all-time against Lourdes in a series that began Oct. 27, 2011, the first game in the Gray Wolf program's history. The Cardinals have won the last 12 meetings between the two schools after sweeping the regular season series against Lourdes. Concordia defeated the Gray Wolves 49-48 on Dec. 16 inside the Ebeid Rec Center before scoring a 68-56 win in Ann Arbor, Mich. on Jan. 31. Concordia holds a 13-1 advantage all-time in Ann Arbor.
This Season's Previous Meetings: Lourdes rallied from a nine-point second half deficit to take the lead, but Brooke Brauher made two free throws with 1.8 seconds remaining on Dec. 16 as Concordia defeated the Gray Wolves 49-48 inside the Ebeid Rec Center.
Shae Pedroza led the Gray Wolves with 16 points while
Nakiya Sigman added nine points while
Macie Stringfellow grabbed 14 rebounds. Abby Long tallied 17 points for the Cardinals while Taylor Leatherman had 14 points and 15 boards. On Jan. 31 in Ann Arbor,
Shae Pedroza surpassed the 1,000-point plateau for her career but Concordia defeated Lourdes 68-56.
Emma Pedroza had a team-high 18 points off the bench for the Gray Wolves while Stringfellow added 16 more. Leatherman had 18 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Cardinals while Long chipped in 17 points.
Wrapping Up Last Week: Lourdes closed out the home portion of its schedule last Wednesday with a 67-50 victory over Rochester (Mich.).
Emma Pedroza led the Gray Wolves with 17 points while
Macie Stringfellow posted a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds. On Saturday, the Gray Wolves wrapped up the regular season with a 65-52 win on the road at Cleary. Pedroza again led Lourdes with 20 points while Stringfellow added 14 points and 10 boards.
Scouting Concordia (Mich.): The Cardinals enter the postseason following a 79-75 overtime victory at home against Aquinas on Saturday afternoon. Abby Long leads Concordia in scoring this season, averaging 17.2 points per game. Taylor Leatherman has added 14.6 points and a team-high 8.2 rebounds per contest.
Lourdes in the WHAC Tournament: This is Lourdes fourth appearance all-time in the WHAC tournament and the being the sixth seed is the highest seed the Gray Wolves have ever been. Lourdes had been the eighth seed each previous time. Lourdes owns a 1-3 record in postseason play. In the Gray Wolves' initial appearance in 2020, Lourdes suffered a 74-41 setback at Indiana Tech in the quarterfinals. In 2021, the Gray Wolves upset top-seeded Rochester (Mich.) 66-60 in the quarterfinals before falling at Concordia (Mich.) 91-84 in overtime in the semifinals. Last year, Lourdes dropped an 85-52 decision at Indiana Tech in the quarterfinals. Lourdes has never hosted a WHAC tournament contest.
A Record-Setting Season: Lourdes has set a new program record for victories in a season, entering the WHAC tournament with 12 this year. The Gray Wolves' previous high was 11 games in both the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 seasons. In addition, Lourdes recorded its best WHAC finish in school history with the tie for sixth in the final standings. The Gray Wolves finished in a tie for seventh place in that 2018-2019 campaign.
Surpassing 1,000: Shae Pedroza became just the third Gray Wolf in program history to reach 1,000 points wearing the terra cotta and black when she surpassed the century mark on Jan. 31 at Concordia (Mich.). Pedroza enters the tournament with 1,054 career points, second most in program history. Lauren Tilden (2011-2015) is the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,302 career points while Jesse Fidler (2014-2017) tallied 1,001 points.
Stringfellow Posts Two More Double-Doubles: Macie Stringfellow recorded back-to-back double-doubles last week, giving her four over her last five games. Stringfellow now has a team-high seven double-doubles on the season. She is second for the Gray Wolves in scoring this season, averaging 10.8 points per game while leading Lourdes with 8.0 rebounds per night.
Playing Defense: Lourdes forced 23 turnovers from both Rochester (Mich.) and Cleary last week, combining for 25 steals over the two games. This season the Gray Wolves have forced an average of 15.8 miscues per night by the opposition.
Emma Pedroza had five thefts in the win at Cleary. For the season,
Macie Stringfellow has a team-high 44 steals while also adding 22 blocked shots on the defensive end of the floor.
Mixing Up the Lineup: Lourdes has had 12 different players draw a starting assignment this season. Not one Gray Wolf has started all 27 games and only
Shae Pedroza, who has started in all 26 games in which she has appeared, has more than 22 starts on the season.
Halle Barnett,
Emma Pedroza, and
Taylor Thomas are the only Gray Wolves to see action in all 27 games this year.
