Lourdes Beats Windsor in International Matchup

Three Gray Wolves set new individual scoring career-highs

Box Score SYLVANIA, Ohio – Lourdes men's basketball (10-2) (5-2 in WHAC) defeated the University of Windsor (11-5) (6-5 in OUA) in a 94-88 offensive showdown on Monday night in the Ebeid Rec Center.

The Gray Wolves received 68 votes in the Dec. 17 weekly edition of the NAIA men's basketball national poll and only helped their case to be ranked in the top 25 by defeating Windsor on Monday. The 94-point offensive explosion is the third-most points scored by Lourdes in the season thus far.

It was a team effort on offense with five Gray Wolves scoring in double figures, including guard/forward Karter Koester. The freshman from nearby Toledo Christian high school scored a career-high 18 points for Lourdes in just 19 minutes off the bench.

"I knew once I got in that I had a chance to make a difference in the game," Koester said. Coach always tells us that once you get in to be ready. I always want to impact the game as much as I can and tonight that was through scoring. We're a very deep bench. We got a lot of young guys, but we have a lot of experienced leaders as well that have really guided us through this season and allowed us to get better in practice."

Senior guard/forward Stephen Coleman Jr. and freshman guard J'Siah Jefferson each also set new individual scoring career-highs while at Lourdes. Coleman Jr. dropped 21 points while also grabbing a team-leading nine rebounds. Jefferson scored 14 points in his first ever start at Lourdes, while also dishing out a team-high six assists in the game.

Meanwhile, sophomore guard Derek Fairley led all scorers in the game with 25 points, giving him his 11th game this season where he's led the Gray Wolves in scoring. Sophomore guard Adonus Abrams rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points.

On the other side, leading the game for the Lancers was senior forward Luke Grace who dropped 22 points on 50% shooting from the field.

Lourdes led the game by 10 after the first half thanks to a red hot field goal percentage of 54.1% and a 6-for-11 start from behind the three-point line. The lead was extended to as much as 13 with 17 minutes left in the game as the Gray Wolves led wire-to-wire in the second half.

The Gray Wolves held advantages over the Lancers in field goal percentage, three-point percentage, steals, rebounds and turnovers forced.

Coach DuPree's Postgame Comments
"Windsor's a tough team, they're very well coached," Coach DuPree said. "We started off very sluggish and we were too up-and-down, that's why the game ended up being as close as it was. We didn't play our best, but all you got to do is win by one, and we did. Going into this game guys knew they were going to get an opportunity and Karter was one of those guys that made the most of his opportunity. He did an excellent job and kept us in it in that second half with how he was scoring the basketball."

Next Game
Lourdes will take on IU Columbus tomorrow night at 5:00 p.m. at home in the Ebeid Rec Center.
