PREVIEW: No. 14 Men's Basketball Prepares for Program's Sixth Trip to the Dance

The Gray Wolves will take on no. 3 Huntington on Friday, March 14th at 6 PM

HUNTINGTON, Ind. –
For the fourth consecutive season and sixth time in program history, the Lourdes University men's basketball team is set to compete on the national stage, opening the 2025 NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship as the No. 14 seed against No. 3 seed and host Huntington University on Friday, March 14, in Huntington, Ind.

GAME INFORMATION
Lourdes' first-round game will be broadcast via livestream by Huntington University. Fans can also follow along on social media for updates throughout the contest. The winner of this matchup will advance to the second round on Friday, March 15, to face either No. 6 or No. 11 in the bracket, with a trip to the final site in Kansas City, Mo., on the line.

MAKING WHAC TOURNAMENT HISTORY 
Lourdes (21-8) earned an at-large bid to the tournament after finishing second in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) regular-season standings. The Gray Wolves now aim to make history by securing their first-ever victory in national tournament play, entering this year's event with an 0-5 all-time record in previous appearances (2012, 2013, 2022, 2023, 2024).   

LOOKING BACK TO 2024 SEASON 
Last season, Lourdes also entered as a No. 14 seed, falling in the opening round to No. 3 Morningside. Now under the leadership of first-year head coach Jake DuPree, the Gray Wolves look to break through and advance past the first round for the first time.

HEAD COACH JAKE DUPREE

, a former Lourdes standout and a founding member of the program in 2010, has been a fixture within the Gray Wolves' coaching staff since 2015. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant under Andre Smith before transitioning into an assistant coaching role under Josh Gibson. DuPree later served as the associate head coach under Dennis Hopson, playing a key role in the program's sustained success. Now in his first season as head coach, he has led Lourdes to a 21-8 record and its fourth consecutive NAIA National Championship appearance, aiming to guide the Gray Wolves to their first-ever national tournament victory.

SCOUTING THE GRAY WOLVES
Lourdes enters the national tournament averaging 70.6 points and 39.6 rebounds per game with a 41.8 shooting percentage. The WHAC Player of the Year, senior Shaunn Monroe has been a dominant force for the Gray Wolves, averaging 23.4 points per game while shooting 49.4% from the field and 42.0% from three-point range. He also contributes 4.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 2.4 steals per game, making him a key playmaker on both ends of the floor. Derrell Jones averages 11.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, while also tallying 27 blocks and 9 steals on the defensive end. 

SCOUTING HUNTINGTON
Huntington heads into the tournament with a record of 24-7 which includes a 12-6 league record and five wins over Top 25 opponents. This is the 12th time the Foresters have advanced to an NAIA postseason tournament. Key players include, Lane Sparks, who leads Huntington with 22.7 points per game while shooting 45.2% from the field and 39.0% from beyond the arc. Landen Jordan averages 14.3 points and a team-high 7.0 rebounds per game while shooting an efficient 66.3% from the field.

The winner of Friday's matchup will advance to the second round on Saturday, March 15, to face either No. 6 or No. 11 in the bracket, with a trip to the final site in Kansas City, Mo., on the line.
