Lourdes Proudly Celebrates Student-Athletes at the 2025 Gubi Awards Show

Each team awarded three student-athletes, while many others were recognized.

SYLVANIA, Ohio (LourdesAthletics.com) – The Lourdes University Athletic Department proudly hosted the 2025 Gubi Awards Show on Monday, May 5, in the Franciscan Center Theater, celebrating a year of remarkable achievements, unforgettable moments, and the outstanding character of its student-athletes.

Coaches, athletes, and the athletics administration gathered for a red-carpet evening that highlighted not only athletic performance, but also academic excellence, leadership, and service. The event was co-emceed by head women's basketball coach Tandy Bradford and head men's soccer coach Matt Johnson.

The program began with a warm welcome from Athletic Director Jo Ann Gordon, followed by remarks from Lourdes University President Dr. William Bisset. Head wrestling coach Dock Kelly III offered a prayer and led a moment of silence honoring the late Larry Drozdowicz, a longtime supporter of Lourdes Athletics.

A video recap of the 2024–25 athletic season kicked off the night, followed by the presentation of individual team awards. Each athletic program recognized student-athletes in three categories: Newcomer of the Year, Most Improved Player, and Most Valuable Player (MVP) — honoring individuals who made significant impacts throughout their seasons. (See Below for the full list of award winners).

Among the standout recognitions:

  • Shaunn Monroe (Men's Basketball), the WHAC Player of the Year, was named Male Student-Athlete of the Year.

  • Stefana Jelacic (Women's Wrestling), a two-time NAIA national champion, was honored as Female Student-Athlete of the Year.

  • Five graduating seniors — Jannik Hofmann, Bhuvan Ramaswamy, Madelynn Dubois, Kambry Edwards, and Karson Edwards — were presented with Senior Scholar-Athlete Awards for maintaining perfect 4.0 GPAs throughout their careers.

  • Student-athletes who earned All-American and NAIA All-Academic honors were also recognized on stage.

  • Each team's WHAC Champions of Character honorees were celebrated for their integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.

In a surprise finale, head men's and women's volleyball coach Greg Reitz was recognized for reaching a monumental career milestone — 500 career wins — a testament to his leadership, longevity, and dedication to the Lourdes volleyball programs.

The evening closed with expressions of gratitude to the university's support staff, including strength and conditioning, athletic training, sports information, compliance, and game day operations teams — as well as Lourdes' dedicated student workers.

After the formal program, guests were invited to mingle, take photos at the red carpet and photo areas, and enjoy dinner together in the campus dining hall.

"This night is about celebrating the full student-athlete experience," said Jo Ann Gordon. "From competition to the classroom, from leadership to personal growth — every single person in this room helped make this year special."
