The Lourdes University men's baseball team made history on Friday February 24, 2012 by playing their first game ever. The Gray Wolves traveled to Georgetown, KY to take on Georgetown College the home of the Tigers. The Tigers would defeat the Gray Wolves in both games.
Game 1
Andrew Lepiarz got the start for the Gray Wolves and had to battle in the first inning. With the bases loaded after a hit batsman, a walk and a hit Lepiarz was able to get two outs retired before giving up a bases loaded two run scoring single to the Tigers to make it 2-0. With runners on 1
st and 2
nd another double by the Tigers would give them a 4-0 advantage. Andrew would rebound though and strike out the next batter to get out of the inning.
The second inning would be another tough one for the Gray Wolves as they went 3 up 3 down in the top half of the inning and then would give up two more runs in the bottom half of the inning on two hits.
The third inning would see another run come across for the Tigers to make it 7-0. The Gray Wolves managed a hit in the top half of the inning but would strand the runner.
Andy Kefalos would start things out for the Gray Wolves in the 4
th inning with a double down the third base line. Unfortunately, though the Gray Wolves would not be able to produce a run after the next three batters went down on outs. The Gray Wolves would play well defensively in the bottom of the 3
rd inning but would give up a wind aided solo homerun to make it 8-0.
The Gray Wolves would manage a Phillip Dysard single in the top of the 5
th inning but would be unable to get much going after a quick double play retired the side. The Gray Wolves would get out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the fifth with a fly out to center field for out number three.
An Andy Kefalos single to right center would be all the Gray Wolves could muster in the top of the 6
th inning. In the bottom half of the inning would be good for the Tigers and not so much for the Gray Wolves as they surrender three runs and trail 11-0 after six innings.
The Gray Wolves would have one last chance at bat in this 7 inning game but would go down 1-2-3 in the inning and drop the game by a final score of 11-0.

Game 2
Jake Conklin would get the game started with a hit to center field with a single and then be moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt by Austin Gunn. Patrick Magat would reach 1
st base after an error by the third baseman for the Tigers to get runners at 2
nd and 3
rd. Andrew Kefalos would give the Gray Wolves their first runs of the season after a two run scoring single to center field. The Gray Wolves would lead after ½ innings 2-0.
The bottom of the 1
st inning saw Frank Shaffer take to the mound in his first start. The inning would go the way of the Tigers though as they would score three runs in the bottom half of the inning on three hits.
The top of the second inning would be unproductive for the Gray Wolves as they would be retired following a single by Phillip Dysard to left field. The bottom of the inning would be all Tigers as they would plate three more runs to increase their lead to 6-2 after two innings.
The top of the third inning would be a quick one for the Gray Wolves as they were retired 1-2-3. The bottom of the third would be another productive one for the Tigers as they put another 3 runs on the board to take a 9-2 lead after three innings.
The top of the 4
th was a quick 1-2-3 for Lourdes as they were set down without a hit or base runner. The bottom half of the inning was a great defensive inning for Lourdes as they would hold the Tigers to just one base runner and no runs given up.
The top of the 5
th inning the Gray Wolves would go down in order. The bottom half of the inning would prove to be the end of the game after a three run homerun would give the Tigers a 12-2 lead invoking the 10 run rule.
The Gray Wolves fall to 0-2 overall and will return to the field on Saturday at 1pm in double header action against Georgetown College.
